The “MADE IN GRECE” on the World

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA) The government’s export policy is now entering a new phase that builds on the positive results of the past four years and will offer greater possibilities to the country’s exporters, Economy and Finance Minister George Alogoskoufis said at a presentation of the master plan of the Hellenic Foreign Trade Board (HEPO) for 2008 (February 9). “With the great efforts made by Greek companies, taking advantage of changes in the government’s export policy, we have managed to turn a new page in the country’s export performance,” “Capitalising on the experience gained to date, we are… formulating new priorities… and opening new horizons for our exporters…” Alogoskoufis stated.

Alogoskoufis stressed that the decline in exports, which had fallen from 10.5% of GDP in 2000 to 8.4% in 2004, had now been reversed. “In 2007, our exports amounted to 9.6% of GDP. And despite the strengthening of international uncertainties, they are projected to increase further in 2008 to 9.8% of GDP,” he said. HEPO’s programme for 2008 is the most ambitious to date, Alogoskoufis said, involving 175 initiatives in 58 countries, with Greek products from 25 different branches. Alogoskoufis said HEPO was placing special emphasis this year on supporting exporting companies in the country’s regions, providing services and information to enterprises through the operation of a call centre, innovations such as the “Kerasma” initiative for the promotion of quality Greek food and beverages and the promotion of Greek construction materials, jewellery, cosmetics, clothing and technology products abroad.
