» Newborns Exposed to Genotoxic Chemicals

The European research project NewGeneris (Newborns and Genotoxic Exposure Risks) is examining the risks to which newborns are exposed as a result of genotoxic chemicals in food and the environment. The Institute of Biological Research and Biotechnology of the National Hellenic Research Foundation is participating in the project, which is co-financed by the EU’s Sixth Framework Programme and brings together 25 research teams from 16 countries. Research covers large population groups (mothers/children) and is expected to lead to increased precautionary measures for the health of newborns put at risk by exposure to harmful factors during pregnancy. The 2nd Annual Meeting of NewGeneris took place at the National Hellenic Research Foundation, Athens, from 11 to 14 February 2008.
