The Rockwave Festival, a musical event held every summer in Athens, has established its reputation since its inception 12 years ago. This year, Terra Vibe Park opens its gates and prepares its two stages on July 8, 9 and 10 to host a line up of more than thirty Greek and international artists for all music tastes from metal to pop. Headliners in 2008 are The Offspring, Manu Chao and Judas Priest.
From 6 to 10 of July, in Hermoupolis, on the island of Syros, will perform world famous guitar players at 15th Guitar Festival. It includes concerts, seminars, competition on new guitarists and many improvisation events in progress.
The 1st Mediterranean Festival, “Art at the land of mastic”,is taking place from the 24th of June till the 12th of August on the island of Chios. At the same time, from July 7 to 9, the 1st Mediterranean Kids Festival will take place also at Chios, with kids from elemantary schools of Chios,and all over, participating in various events.
Theatre
The fresh look of Thomas Ostermeier at Shakespeare’s ever-performed play, Hamlet is being presented at the Athens Festival from July 7 to 9.
Beckett’s masterpiece, Happy Days will be presented by the National Theatre of Great Britain at the Epidaurus Festival on July 4 and 5.
When Philip Glass met Leonard Cohen
From July 8-12, Badminton Theatre in Athens will host an enticing duet. Philip Glass has been inspired for his latest work by the poems of Leonard Cohen and his book “The Book of Longing”. The two artists have chosen Athens for this event which will present the poems of Cohen set to music by Glass.
Exhibition
“The Modern Arab World” photographers exhibition at the Benaki Museum, Athens, records the rise and catalytic effect of ever increasing information media in the Islamic world, the Western influence on the lifestyle of the local communities, as well as everyday life experiences in the Middle East.
Dance
The 22nd World Congress on Dance Research is taking place in Athens, from July 2 to 6. The congress is organized by the Dora Stratou Dance Theater in collaboration with the International Dance Council and it is considered the largest gathering of dance specialists worldwide.

Athens Festival opens its dance section in July. The Three Duets are on from July 5 to 10 at Peiraios 260 and promise emotion and pleasure through the performances of four leading figures of dance: Mikhail Baryshnikov, Mats Ek, Ana Laguna and David Neumann.
