Greek PM: Strengthening Innovation

Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis, addressing a conference titled “The contribution of Research Centers to research, technological development and innovation,” held on April 1 at the Athens Concert Hall, stressed the great importance of research and technology for the country’s economic growth and social progress. He said that a precise strategy on research and technology would help Greece overcome the global economic crisis more easily and called on Hellenic businesses to emphasize on innovation and new forms of production. Moreover, the premier noted that over €1 billion have been earmarked in the National Strategic Reference Framework 2007-2013 for boosting research and high technology investments at universities, research centres and technological institutes, while he emphasized the national energy policy and the importance of renewable energy sources on the country’s growth.
