El Greco Paintings on display in New York

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA) The Onassis Cultural Centre in New York presents an extraordinary group of 15th and 16th century paintings, including early works by El Greco.
Under the title “The Origins of El Greco” the exhibition features 46 exceptional works from public and private collections in Greece, Europe, the United States and Canada, many of which have travelled to the U.S. for the first time.
Tracing the cross-currents of Byzantine and Renaissance influences in the workshops of 15th and 16th century Crete the show is the first to focus on the evolution of the multifaceted relationship of Cretan painters with Western art during this rich period.
The exhibition will run until February 27, 2010 and will be officially inaugurated on December 8, by Culture and Tourism Minister Pavlos Geroulanos and the Archbishop of Crete, Irineos.

Global Wind Day – Invest in Greece

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)  June 15th is Global Wind Day. Invest in Greece Agency gives a detailed presentation of Greece’s potential in wind power investments.  Wind, or aeolic, power is driving growth in the renewables sector. The superb wind resources in Greece are among the most attractive in Europe.  Capacity increased by an average of 30% annually between 1990 and 2003 and almost 30% of total capacity was installed in the period of 2003-2004.  In terms of advantages of investing in wind energy, Greece offers high feed-in tariffs locked for 20 years, incentives up to as much as 60% of total investment cost, cash grants, leasing subsidies, wage subsidies or tax benefits. The government has also committed to attracting €6 billion by 2020 for energy production, achieving a target for wind park development at 2,600 MW by 2010 and 6,000 by 2020.
