Open Access to Academic Information in Athens

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)      An international conference entitled “Open access infrastructures: the future of scientific communication” will take place on December 15 – 16 in Athens. Adapting the educational system to the needs of the digital age, the conference organised by the National Documentation Centre of the Hellenic Research Foundation, aims to present recent trends in open access infrastructure both in Greece and worldwide as well as to depict the future of scholarly communication in the field of dissemination of information concerning research results. The conference is part of the National Information System on Research and Technology project (phase III), as part of the “Information Society” Programme. Greek President at the European Academy of Marketing

ceb3ceb9cf89cf81ceb3cebf-aylonitis(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)  Marketing professor at Athens University of Economics and Business, Giorgos Avlonitis was elected president of the European Academy of Marketing for the biennium 2008-2010. The European Academy of Marketing is considered a prestigious academic network for marketing research and teaching. The institute counts more than 1,000 members and is highly active in the United States, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Oceania, and Israel. George Avlonitis is  Professor of Marketing at the Department of Marketing and Communication, and past president of the Greek Marketing Academy.  

4rth International Conference “People with disabilities and Mass Media” in Athens

conf-logo-06The Secretariat General of Communication – Secretariat General of Information organises the 4th International Conference on People with Disabilities and Mass Media. The  4th International Conference will take place at  the premises of the Secretariat General of Communication – Secretariat General of Information, on 22-23 June and focuses  on the factors which shape the new developing environment of digital media such as social web, blogs, wikis, facebook, etc.  The Conference will also attempt to investigate the potentiality of presenting disability through advertising spots, as well as the changes this practice might bring in our perception of disability. The 4th International Conference will conclude with the active participation of children with disabilities, because children themselves can communicate their message better than anyone through their artistic expression. On the initiative of Minister of State and government spokesman Theodoros Roussopoulos, following up on the previous year’s International Conference “People with disabilities and Mass Media” that was held in Athens 18-19 June 2007, the Secretariat General of Communication- Secretariat General of Information organised:

emotion-logo-08-enThis combined effort has become an annual event, with the aim of increasing public awareness and promoting the inclusion of disabled people, whilst further encouraging the media and film-makers, disabled or not, to take an active interest in this area and address the widest possible public. Both events are organized by the Secretariat General of Communication – Secretariat General of Information, while the Documentary Festival is organized in collaboration with the Greek Film Centre. Literary Meeting in Warsaw with Greek Writer Vassilis Vassilikos

On October 17, the Press and Communication Office in Warsaw – in collaboration with the French Institute in Warsaw and the National Book Centre of Greece (EKEBI) – organized a literary meeting with Greek writer Vassilis Vassilikos at the premises of the French Institute in Warsaw. Professor Jozef Kwaterko coordinated the meeting and read extracts from Mr. Vassilikos books, while the writer replied to audience questions. The conference followed a small reception, offering greek appetizers and wine and concluded with the screening of “Z”, Kostas Gavras legendary film, based on a Vassilis Vassilikos novel. Warsaw / Celebrating European Day of Languages (26 & 27/9)

Celebrating European Day of Languages, a project that promotes linguistic and cultural diversity in Europe, ten Cultural Institutes and Embassies – members of EUNIC Warsaw Cluster (EU National Institutes for Culture) – including the Greek Embassy in Warsaw, organized a two days cultural event at Zloty Tarasy , a multifunctional complex in the center of Warsaw (26 & 27/9).

The participation of Greece was coordinated by the Greek Press and Communication Office in Warsaw in collaboration with the Center for Hellenic Studies in Warsaw University.

The program included public lessons and story telling, educational competitions

(such as “treasure hunt”), and music events, while participating institutions provided promotional material for the languages involved.

The Greek participation featured soprano Katarzyna Gojny, performing songs of Theodorakis, Loizos and Kougioumtzis, rearranged by Odysseas Konstantinopoulos.   PHOTOS : Continue reading
