Greek Companies prospering in Poland (Warsaw Business Journal)

Greece has made the headlines for all the wrong reasons in 2011, with the country being hit by political turmoil as it struggles under the effects of the economic crisis. However, for many Greek companies based inPoland, this year has been business as usual.
There are currently about 40 companies with Greek capital active in the Polish market, according to figures from the Embassy of Greece in Warsaw.
Greek-owned companies have invested more than €1.4 billion and created a total of 11,000 jobs in Poland, the country’s ambassador to Poland, Gabriel Coptsidis, said in a statement earlier this year.
Mellon Group, a company headquartered in Athens specializing in IT services and sales for financial institutions, telecommunications firms and companies in the retail sector, established itself in the Polish market almost six years ago. A growing Polish client base, which includes lenders such as PKO Bank Polski, Polbank EFG, and mBank, helped Mellon Poland make it in to the top 100 companies of Europe’s 500 fastest growing companies in 2010. Europe’s 500, which makes the ranking, is an association of fast growing owner-managed companies in Europe.
“This year is better than the previous one, and we have not been affected,” said Grigorios Kotoulas, General Manager, Mellon Poland. “However, we see in the market that there is a slowdown, but not a recession. We are making plans accordingly but none that … will affect our forecast for2012”, he added.
For Lefteris Maroulis, general director of sports betting firm Totolotek (owned by Greek company Intralot), business has been going well inPoland. Totolotek is a company which has been organizing sports betting in Poland since 1992 and operates close to 400 locations in the country.

Government announced austerity plan

PM: “Sacrifices will Bear Fruits”

The government announced yesterday an additional set of measures bound to slash the double-digit public deficit.
Speaking yesterday at a Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Papandreou said that the emphasis is now shifting to what the European Union will do. 
The new measures aim at bringing into public coffers some €4.8 billion, amount which corresponds to 2% of the country’s GDP.  

Pay Cuts

In particular, the new measures include a 30% pay cut of public sector’s supplements allocated annually, and a 12% across the board cut of public servants’ benefits. Moreover, subsidies to public entities and their social security funds will be reduced by 10%.
Any additional remuneration in the public sector will be trimmed by 50%, and compensation for overtime work will shrink by 30%.

Executive bonuses in the public sector will be abolished and the Public Investment Budget will be curtailed by 5% (€500 million). As of 2011, the ratio for public sector hirings will be one for every five retirees.

Taxation

VAT is expected to rise at all cases by an average 1% to 2% and an extra levy on fuel, cigarettes, liqueur and luxury products will be imposed.
A one-off tax of 1% on personal incomes above €100.000 will also be introduced, together with a 15% rise in taxation of offshore companies’ real estate property.

Χρυσές δουλειές για Έλληνες κατασκευαστές στην Πολωνία

(TA NEA-ΔΗΜΟΣΙΕΥΘΗΚΕ: Τετάρτη 19 Αυγούστου 2009) Σε πόλο έλξης για ελληνικούς κατασκευαστικούς ομίλους έχει αναδειχθεί τον τελευταίο καιρό η μεγάλη και «υγιής»- όπως διαβεβαιώνουν διεθνείς οργανισμοί- αγορά της Πολωνίας. Πρώτος ο όμιλος J&Ρ Άβαξ έσπευσε να εκμεταλλευτεί τις επενδυτικές ευκαιρίες που παρουσιάζει η πολωνική αγορά, ενώ παρόντες σε αυτήν είναι ήδη οι όμιλοι ΓΕΚ-Τέρνα, Ιντρακάτ και κάποιες άλλες εταιρείες που δεν είναι κατασκευαστικές, αλλά αποφάσισαν να δραστηριοποιηθούν στην αγορά ακινήτων της ανατολικοευρωπαϊκής χώρας. Πρόκειται για την εταιρεία Αlpha Grissin και την αλυσίδα έτοιμων ενδυμάτων Βάρδας. Τις προοπτικές ανάπτυξης που παρουσιάζει ο κατασκευαστικός κλάδος της Πολωνίας, και ειδικά ο τομέας των υποδομών, έσπευσε να εκμεταλλευτεί και η εταιρεία Σωληνουργεία Κορίνθου που δραστηριοποιείται στην κατασκευή μεταλλικών σωλήνων και είναι μέλος του ομίλου Βιοχάλκο. Η έλξη αυτή των ελληνικών επιχειρήσεων για τη μέχρι πριν από λίγα χρόνια «άγνωστη» σε αυτές αγορά δεν σχετίζεται μόνο με τις αισιόδοξες προοπτικές της πολωνικής οικονομίας (2,5% αύξηση του ΑΕΠ προβλέπει για το 2010 η JΡ Μorgan και 1,5% ο ΟΟΣΑ). Σχετίζεται και με τη σχεδόν προνομιακή μεταχείριση της Πολωνίας από την Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση σε σχέση με τους άλλους νεοφερμένους της Ε.Ε. και την εισροή στη χώρα σημαντικών κονδυλίων για έργα υποδομής.
Έξι έργα για την J&Ρ Άβαξ
Η μεγαλύτερη παρουσία ελληνικού κατασκευαστικού ομίλου στον τομέα της κατασκευής υποδομών, αλλά και οικιστικών προγραμμάτων είναι αυτή του ομίλου J&Ρ Άβαξ. Το πλέον πρόσφατο έργο που ανέλαβε να κατασκευάσει ο συγκεκριμένος όμιλος είναι ένας αυτοκινητόδρομος συνολικού προϋπολογισμού 172,7 εκατ. ευρώ. Το έργο αυτό δεν είναι το μοναδικό που έχει αναλάβει ο ελληνικός όμιλος στην Πολωνία. Έχουν προηγηθεί άλλα πέντε: ένα οικοδομικό προϋπολογισμού 13,7 εκατ. ευρώ στην πόλη του Gliwice (έχει ολοκληρωθεί), μία οδοποιία προϋπολογισμού 16,7 εκατ. ευρώ στην περιοχή της πόλης Μiedzyrzec Ρodlaski (έχει ολοκληρωθεί), το έργο κατασκευής του τμήματος SΟSΝΙCΑ- ΒΕLΚ του Αυτοκινητόδρομου Α1 μήκους 15,4 χλμ. και προϋπολογισμού 175 εκατ. ευρώ, καθώς και η κατασκευή του κόμβου SΟSΝΙC προϋπολογισμού 207 εκατ. ευρώ. Επίσης, κατασκευάζει το νέο στάδιο στο Wroclaw για το UΕFΑ ΕURΟ 2012 σε κοινοπραξία με δύο πολωνικές εταιρείες, προϋπολογισμού 145 εκατ. ευρώ. Συνολικά το ανεκτέλεστο των έργων της J&Ρ Άβαξ στην Πολωνία, μαζί με την καινούργια σύμβαση, ανέρχεται περίπου στο ποσό των 350 εκατ. ευρώ χωρίς ΦΠΑ.
Εταιρείες από άλλους κλάδους επενδύουν σε ακίνητα
Τον περασμένο Σεπτέμβριο τρεις ελληνικές εταιρείες ίδρυσαν από κοινού την εταιρεία ΑLΡΗΑ ΜΟGΙLΑΝΥ DΕVΕLΟΡΜΕΝΤ Spzoo, με έδρα την Κρακοβία και με σκοπό τη δραστηριοποίησή της στην πολωνική αγορά ακινήτων. Πρόκειται για τις εταιρείες ΑΛΦΑ ΓΚΡΙΣΙΝ ΙΝFΟΤΕCΗ Α.Ε., ΒΑΡΔΑΣ ΑΕΒΕΕ και ΙΝΤΡΑΚΑΤ. Οι τρεις εταιρείες κατέχουν από 25%, ενώ το υπόλοιπο ποσοστό ανήκει σε ιδιώτες επενδυτές.

Με όχημα την εταιρεία Εolos Ρolska, που ίδρυσε πέρυσι στη Βαρσοβία ο όμιλος της ΓΕΚ- Τέρνα και συγκεκριμένα η θυγατρική του, Τέρνα Ενεργειακή, θα επιχειρήσει ο ελληνικός όμιλος να διεισδύσει στην αγορά ανανεώσιμων πηγών ενέργειας της Πολωνίας. Greece: International Natural Cosmetics

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA) Spurred by a trend towards natural products, Greek cosmetics companies are breaking out of their niches and entering the mainstream international market through high-end department stores or their own outlets. Two such firms are Korres (www.korres.com) and Apivita (www.apivita.gr). The Korres homeopathic pharmacy in Athens has blossomed into a large-scale, high-tech company producing safe, effective and affordable body and face potions. Apivita’s cosmetic and healthcare products are based on Greece’s natural foods, flowers, philosophy and traditions, while it has gained reputation as a socially responsible company for its alliance with the World Wildlife Fund and its restoration of the ancient pharmacy at Greece’s Mount Athos Holy Mountain.

Four Greek Firms Win Best Workplaces Awards

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)  Four companies based in Greece – Microsoft Hellas, Piscines Ideales, Genesis Pharma and Procter & Gamble Hellas – have been included in a list of 100 European companies with the best working environment for the year 2008. The four companies earned distinction in the European competition “Best Workplaces Europe 2008,” organized by the Great Place to Work Institute Europe. The winners of the Special Awards were announced at the annual European Gala Awards ceremony in London on May 27, where they received their awards.
