Greek – British Journalist Released

I. Athanasiadis(GREEK NEWS AGENDA) Greek-British journalist Iason Athanasiadis was released by Iran on Sunday, according to reports by the Agence France Presse and Reuters news agencies. Athanasiadis, who works for the Washington Times, had been arrested during disturbances following the recent presidential elections in the country. The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew had lodged a demarche with the Iranian government for the journalist’s release. He has both Greek and British citizenship. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)  Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew announced on Monday that he had lodged a demarche with the Iranian government for the release of Greek journalist Iason Athanasiadis. Last “Goodbye” to Archbishop Christodoulos of Athens and All Greece

The funeral of Archbishop Christodoulos of Athens and All Greece was held on Thursday at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral, followed by a burial ceremony at Athens’ First Cemetery. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew officiated at the service. The funeral was attended by President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias, Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis and government officials, the parliament Speaker, political party leaders, and MPs, as well as the Prelates of the Orthodox Churches around the world.
