Διάλεξη “Ο ελληνικός εμφύλιος πόλεμος” – Εκδήλωση Γραφείου Τύπου (Βαρσοβία, 5/3/2012)

Διάλεξη του αναπληρωτή καθηγητή του Πανεπιστημίου Μακεδονίας (Θεσσαλονίκη), Νίκου Μαραντζίδη, με θέμα «Ο ελληνικός εμφύλιος πόλεμος – Εσωτερικές και διεθνείς διαστάσεις», πραγματοποιήθηκε στις 5 Μαρτίου στο Πανεπιστήμιο Βαρσοβίας.
Η διάλεξη διοργανώθηκε από το Γραφείο Τύπου, σε συνεργασία με το Τμήμα Ελληνικών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Βαρσοβίας.
Ο καθηγητής παρουσίασε το ιστορικό πλαίσιο και τα σημαντικότερα γεγονότα του εμφυλίου, προκειμένου να αναδείξει το πολύπλοκο πλέγμα σχέσεων που συνέδεε την Ελλάδα της περιόδου του εμφυλίου με ξένες χώρες.
Επικεντρώθηκε στον ρόλο χωρών της Ανατολικής Ευρώπης και την υποστήριξη των κομμουνιστών ανταρτών από το Ανατολικό μπλόκ, δίνοντας έμφαση στην βοήθεια της Πολωνίας προς τους έλληνες κομμουνιστές, η οποία περιελάμβανε την υποδοχή και περίθαλψη προσφύγων ανταρτών και παιδιών, την ίδρυση μυστικού στρατιωτικού νοσοκομείου στη Βαλτική, αποστολές τροφίμων, ιατροφαρμακευτικού υλικού κ.ά..
Αναφέρθηκε, επίσης, στις διάφορες περιόδους μνήμης του εμφυλίου στην Ελλάδα και στην θεματολογία του εμφυλίου στην ελληνική λογοτεχνία.
Την διάλεξη, στην οποία παρέστησαν ο πρέσβης Γαβριήλ Κοπτσίδης και πολλά μέλη της Ελληνικής Πρεσβείας, παρακολούθησαν οι φοιτητές και οι διδάσκοντες του Τμήματος Ελληνικών Σπουδών, καθηγητές του Πανεπιστημίου Βαρσοβίας, ομογενείς και άλλοι Έλληνες της Βαρσοβίας.
Ο καθ. Ν. Μαραντζίδης συνεργάζεται στενά, τα τελευταία χρόνια, με το Γραφείο Τύπου, το οποίο παρέχει διευκολύνσεις στη  έρευνά του για την βοήθεια της Πολωνίας προς τους έλληνες πρόσφυγες του εμφυλίου.

Lecture by professor Nikos Marantzidis about the Greek Civil War (Warsaw, 5/3/2012)

A lecture titled “The Greek Civil War – Internal and international dimensions” was held at the University of Warsaw by the professor of the University of Macedonia (Thessaloniki), Nikos Marantzidis, on the 5th of March 2012. The lecture was organized by the Greek Press and Communication Office in Warsaw, in conjunction with the Department of Greek Studies of the University of Warsaw.
The professor presented the historical context and the main events of the Civil War, aiming to demonstrate the complicate relations of Greece with foreign countries during the Civil War. He focused on the role of various Eastern European countries and their support to the Greek communist partisans, emphasizing Poland`s aid towards the Greek communists, which concentrated on the reception and care of refugees (partisans and children), the creation of a secret military hospital in the Baltic Sea, food provisions, medical equipment etc.. There were, also, references to the different periods of collective memory regarding the Civil War in Greece and to issues related to the Civil War in Greek literature.
The lecture was attended by the Greek Ambassador Gabriel Coptsidis and several members of the Greek Embassy, students and professors of the Department of Greek Studies, professors of the University of Warsaw, along with members of the general public, among which were Greeks, expatriates and residents of Warsaw.
Professor Marantzidis works closely with the Press Office during the last years, in his research about Poland`s aid towards the Greek refugees of the Civil War.

“The Balkans – Europe goes South-East” (Warsaw, 2-4, 8/12/2011) – Film “Reverse” of the Greek director George Grigorakis

The Press Office of the Greek Embassy in Warsaw invites to
“The Balkans – Europe goes South-East”, a week of events focusing on South-Eastern Europe.
Musical performances, films, literature and a conference on politics, 
organised by the Embassies and Cultural Institutes of the Balkan countries and Austria, among them, also, the Press Office of the Greek Embassy.
As the accession treaty with Croatia will be signed during the last days of the Polish EU Presidency, the events aim to show what South Eastern Europe has to offer.

On Saturday, 3rd December, at 5 pm, during the screening of short films from South-East Europe, the film “Reverse” of Greek director George Grigorakis (2010, 19 min., feature) will be projected in Klub Powiekszenie (ul. Nowy Swiat 27).
The film, a production of the Sarajevo Film Festival, has been distinguished with two awards in the Drama Festival.
The plot:
Marco wants to teach his son how to protect himself, while his son wants his Mom back. His lover wants to protect herself and her son, Adis, knows how to do it! Marco is caught in a situation, where he is unable to protect himself or his son. Words and actions work in reverse.

“European Day of Languages” (24-29/9/2011) – Greek events organized by the Press Office

The Press Office of the Greek Embassy in Warsaw once again participated in “European Day of Languages 2011” events, that took place in Warsaw from 24 till 29 September and aimed to inform Poles about the cultural and linguistic heritage of European countries.

Organizers were over eighteen countries, members of EUNIC Cluster Warsaw (European Union National Institutes of Culture), among them the Press Office of the Greek Embassy, cultural institutes and embassies of European countries, as well as  other institutions such as the European Commission Representation in Poland, the European Parliament Communication Office in Poland, the Polish Foundation for the Development of the Educational System, the University of Warsaw etc.
The program (www.edj.waw.pl) consisted of demo language lessons, seminars, European film festival, theatre workshops, city game, language picnic etc.
The Greek program of the events included:
Demo lesson of Greek language, that took place in the Institute of Foreign Languages of the University of Warsaw on the 27^th of September, as part of the demo-lessons of  languages and cultures of the participating countries.
Greek info stand, which was set in the University Campus of the Old Library of the University of Warsaw and provided touristic information on the 27^th September from 9 am until 3 pm.
The film “The Trojan Women” directed by Michael Cacoyannis (1971) was shown at the Russian Cultural Institute on the 29^th September, during the film festival organized in the Russian Cultural Institute (26-29 September) and the cinema Alchemia (25^th September):
A wide range of other events were organized during the week (24-29 September): a two-day conference “Language Competences for Professional and Personal Success inEurope”, entertainment activities, theatre workshops, city games, competitions on a special website. This year`s project attracted many students and other visitors and it can be considered as a perfect opportunity to experience the Greek language and culture.

Greek film “Harisma” in “The Awakening of the Summer” events in Warsaw (17-18/6/2011)

Some 2000 people gathered in the park  surrounding the Center of Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw on the night of 17 to 18 of June, waiting for the dawn to break and officially start summer 2011.
The Press Office of the Greek Embassy participated in the event, screening the film “Harisma”, a comedy directed by Christina Ioakeimidi in 2010.  
The first nights of summer are strongly connected with the atmosphere of an ancient midsummer St. John’s Night. These nights are filled with growing craziness, pleasure, ecstasy, romance, desire, love, energy and allure.
Ujazdowski Castle hosted such a special night organized in close cooperation with  EUNIC in Poland  Warsaw. On one indoor and three outdoor screens a rich choice of European films were offered ranging from crazy colorful Austrian Pepperminta, hot romance animation from Great Britain  to scary Nosferatu  from Germany. The night was heathen up with performances of the Estonian band OPIUM Flirt, the Dutch/Danish/Polish band Très.B and a Romanian DJ. In addition there were dance performances and food and drinks served from various European countries.
17 members of EUNIC in Poland Warsaw contributed to the event.
At 10.00 p.m. the vice-president of the cluster opened the program underlying that “The Awakening of the Summer” is a symbolic present to Poland that for the first time in history is taking over the EU presidency on the 1st of July. EUNIC members wanted to express their support and gratitude for the hospitality they have been experiencing in Poland.
The program ended at 4.00 a.m. with breakfast at sunrise.

Εκδηλώσεις “Ευρωπαϊκής Ημέρας Γλωσσών” (Βαρσοβία, 20-27/9/2010)- Συμμετοχή Γραφείου Τύπου Βαρσοβίας

Οι φετινές εκδηλώσεις της «Ευρωπαϊκής Ημέρας Γλωσσών 2010» πραγματοποιήθηκαν στη Βαρσοβία από τις 20 έως τις 27 Σεπτεμβρίου.
Το Γραφείο Τύπου, για μία ακόμη χρονιά, συμμετείχε στη διοργάνωση των εκδηλώσεων προβολής των ευρωπαϊκών γλωσσών, εκδηλώσεις που στοχεύουν στην ενημέρωση του πολωνικού κοινού για τον γλωσσικό και πολιτιστικό πλούτο των χωρών της Ευρώπης. Η Ευρωπαϊκή Ημέρα Γλωσσών θεσπίστηκε από το Συμβούλιο της Ευρώπης το 2001.
Διοργανωτές των εκδηλώσεων ήταν δεκατρείς χώρες, μέλη του EUNIC Cluster Βαρσοβίας (European Union National Institutes for Culture): Ελλάδα (Γραφείο Τύπου Ελληνικής Πρεσβείας), Εσθονία (Πρεσβεία Εσθονίας), Ιρλανδία (Πρεσβεία Ιρλανδίας), Μεγ. Βρετανία (British Council), Βέλγιο (Πρεσβεία Βελγίου), Δανία (Πολιτιστικό Ινστιτούτο Δανίας), Γερμανία (Goethe-Institut), Πορτογαλία (Ινστιτούτο Camoes), Γαλλία (Γαλλικό Ινστιτούτο), Ιταλία (Ιταλικό Ινστιτούτο), Αυστρία (Αυστριακό Ινστιτούτο), Ρουμανία (Ρουμανικό Ινστιτούτο), Ρωσία (Ρωσικό Κέντρο Επιστήμης και Πολιτισμού).
Στη διοργάνωση συμμετείχαν, επίσης, το EUNIC Cluster Βαρσοβίας, η Αντιπροσωπεία της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής στην Πολωνία, το πολωνικό Ίδρυμα για την Ανάπτυξη του Εκπαιδευτικού Συστήματος, το Πανεπιστήμιο Βαρσοβίας, το Εκπαιδευτικό Τμήμα του Δήμου Βαρσοβίας, το Κρατικό Εθνογραφικό Μουσείο στη Βαρσοβία, η Δημόσια Βιβλιοθήκη της συνοικίας Praga (Δήμος Βαρσοβίας), το πολωνικό Κέντρο για την Ανάπτυξη της Εκπαίδευσης, η πολωνική Κρατική Επιτροπή για την Πιστοποίηση της Επάρκειας της Πολωνικής ως Ξένης Γλώσσας. Οι εκδηλώσεις τελούσαν υπό την αιγίδα του πολωνικού Υπουργείου Εθνικής Παιδείας, του πολωνικού Υπουργείου Επιστήμης και Ανώτερης Εκπαίδευσης, της Δημάρχου Βαρσοβίας και της Πρυτάνεως του Πανεπιστημίου Βαρσοβίας.
Η απήχηση των εκδηλώσεων τις προηγούμενες χρονιές οδήγησε τους διοργανωτές στην απόφαση για την φετινή διοργάνωση πολυήμερων εκδηλώσεων, με ποικίλο περιεχόμενο.

European Days of Languages – Greek events

The Press Office of the Greek Embassy in Warsaw participates in “European Days of Languages” events, that will take place in Warsaw (21- 27 September 2010).
Various events will be open to the public, including screenings of films, such as “Ifigenia” directed by Michael Cacoyannis (21 September, Russian Cultural Institute, RONIK), “A Touch of Spice” directed by Tasos Boulmetis, as well as awarded short films (24 September,Ethographical Museum, ETNOKINO).
A special stand promoting Greek tourism will provide information and material at the University campus of the Old Library  on the 27th of September, official opening of “European Days of Languages” events, such as international conference “Languages Integrate”,  performances, concerts etc..
A demo-lesson of Greek language and a workshop of the Greek dance “Zeimbekiko“, in collaboration with the University of Warsaw (Departments of Greek Studies), are, also, included in the programme.
26 Cultural Institutes and Embassies of European countries, the European Commission (Representation in Poland), FRSE, the University of Warsaw, the Municipality of Warsaw, the Polish Ministries of Culture and Education take part in this year`s project.

Poems on the Underground – Greek contemporary poetry

The Press Office of the Greek Embassy in Warsaw promotes the contemporary poetry of Greece and participates to   “Poems on the Underground” events (6-30 September 2010).
“Poems on the Underground” (Wiersze w Metrze) has been inspired by other similar projects  in many cities: Dublin, Paris, New York, Barcelona, Stockholm, Stuttgard and Moscow, organised for the first time in London in 1986.
Wiersze w Metrze promotes contemporary European poetry in public city spaces, through happenings, haiku competition, poetry city game and a performing poetry festival.
Many cultural institutes and embassies participate to the project, which takes place under the auspices of the the mayor of Warsaw, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz.
Greek contemporary poetry will be represented by two acclaimed poets, Kiki Dimoula and Nasos Vagenas.
Kiki Dimoula has recently been awarded the European Literature Prize for 2010. Her poetry has been translated into English, French, German, Swedish, Danish, Spanish and many other languages.
Dimoula’s poetry is haunted by the existential dissolution of the post-world era. Her central themes are hopelessness, insecurity, absence and oblivion. Using diverse subjects and twisting grammar in unconventional ways, she accentuates the power of the words through astonishment and surprise, but always manages to retain a sense of hope.
Nasos Vagenas, professor of Theory and Critique of Literature in the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of Athens, in 2005 was awarded with the State Poetry Prize for his poetic collection ‘Stefanos’.
His poetic work includes the books: ‘Field of Mars’, ‘Biography’, ‘Roxani’s Knees’, ‘Wandering of a non-traveller’, ‘The Fall of the Flying’, ‘Barbarous Odes’ , ‘The Fall of the Flying B’, ‘Dark Ballads and Other Poems’, ‘Stefanos’.
His poetry has been translated into English, German, Italian, Dutch, Romanian, Serbian.
Two poems of Kiki Dimoula and Nasos Vagenas have been translated in polish language for “Wiersze w Metrze” by the professors and students of the Department of Greek Studies of the University of Warsaw (Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies “Artes Liberales”).

Festival of Greek Culture in Tarnowskie Gory (Silesia) 11-28 May 2010

A festival of Greek Culture is taking place in Tarnowskie Gory of Silesia region (southern Poland) from the 11th till the 28th May. The 13th edition of the festival, organized by the Cultural Centre of Tarnowskie Gory, is under the auspices of the Greek Embassy in Warsaw and has been realised with the cooperation of the Press Office.
Various aspects of Greek culture are promoted during the festival, which includes a rich programme of events of high quality, such as lectures, music, cinema, theatre, performances, concerts, dance, discussion-panels, painting, cuisine. Many Greeks that live in Poland and work successfully in various fields (artistic, scientific or economic), participate in this festival, presenting the results of their efforts.
At the official opening of the festival on the 14th May, a message by the Greek Ambassador, Gabriel Coptsidis, who praised the great interest of cultural institutions towards Greece and the high level of their knowledge about Greek history and culture, was read. The Press Attache, Maria Mondelou, has hold a speech, stressing the importance of cultural events dedicated to Greece that are successfully organised in Poland.

Tarnogórskie Makaty, w tym roku poświęcone będą w całości Grecji, a zwłaszcza spuściźnie kulturowej starożytnej Grecji, jak i dorobkowi w tej sferze współczesnego państwa greckiego. Imprezy w ramach XIII Tarnogórskich Makat odbędą się w dniach od 11 do 28 maja. Poprzednie edycje festiwalu poświęcone były m.in. kulturze: Japonii, Litwy, Czech, Węgier i Izraela. Głównym celem wydarzenia jest przybliżenie mieszkańcom naszego miasta i nie tylko, dziedzictwa innych kultur.
Tegoroczny program imprezy zapowiada się bardzo ciekawie. Serdecznie zapraszamy do udziału.

The writer Theodor Kallifatides, visiting Warsaw in order to participate at the Conference “Literature and Immigration”, hold a lecture at the University of Warsaw on the 26^th March.
The lecture was attended by the students of Modern Greek Philology at the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies “Artes Liberales”.
The Greek writer spoke about his life and his decision to immigrate in Sweden, where he lives for the last 45 years. He referred, also, to the subjects that have inspired some of his 40 books and had a discussion with the students who were eager to learn about his new books.
The lecture was proposed by the Press Office of the Greek Embassy in Warsaw, which invited Kallifatides in Poland. The writer had, also, the chance to meet the Greek Ambassador, Gabriel Koptsidis.  

International Conference “Literature and Immigration” in Warsaw (25/3/2010)

An international conference “Literature and Immigration” took place in Warsaw on the 25^th March, under the auspices of the European Commission and EUNIC (EU National Institutes of Culture).
The conference was organized by Goethe Institut, Austrian Cultural Forum, Danish Institute, Romanian Cultural Institute, the Swedish Embassy and the Press Office of the Greek Embassy, all of them members of EUNIC, as well as by the Representation in Poland of the European Commission and the Centre of Modern Art Zamek Ujazdowski, where the conference took place.
Scholars involved in academic research related with the topics of literature and immigration were invited to share their views with writers that have chosen to write in a foreign language.
  

The writer Kallifatides

 Greece was represented by the Albanian writer and journalist, Gazmend Kapllani, who lives and works in Greece and the writer Theodor Kallifatides, who has lived the last 45 years in Sweden, publishing more than 40 books.
Both writers were invited by the Press Office, with the support of the Greek Book Centre. 

Kapllani spoke about “The strange language of dreams”: ”I think that writing in a language that is not your mother tongue is a privilege and a trap at the same time. It’s a trap because every time that you are not satisfied with what you are writing, you’re tempted to blame your failure on the “foreign” language. In a way, it becomes your scapegoat.

On the other hand, it’s a privilege, because the relationship between yourself and that language is a relationship of a never ending curiosity. You never take it for granted. This happens for the sole reason that it was never given to you, you had to “conquer” it. You are in a constant search for yourself and this language. The foreign language will never fully be yours in the same way your mother tongue is. I believe that the relationship one has with one’s mother tongue always contains an element of routine and heaviness. The relationship with the “foreign” language never becomes routine. It gives you a sense of lightness and freedom, a desire to play and conquer. The relationship with your mother tongue seems similar to the maternal affection. The relationship with a foreign language that you acquired resembles a love affair. At least, this is what I can say about my relationship with the Greek language. I feel that I am no longer a stranger to the Greek language. But I am not a native either. Therefore, I do not live inside the Greek language either as a stranger, or as a native. Maybe I live within it as a strange one”. 
Kallifatides, who has published novels, poetry collections, travel essays and plays, has received numerous awards for his works which usually revolve around his experience of Greece and of being Greek in foreign domains and almost all his works have been translated and published in more than twenty languages.
During the conference, he stressed that for him the Greek language is the language of connotations and feelings, and the Swedish language is an intellectual language. He mentioned the problems of writing in your own language and the privileges of writing in a foreign language. He considers himself an immigrant and a writer and not an immigrant writer.

Greece`s presentation by the Greek Embassy and the Press Office at the European Information Centre in Warsaw (19/3/2010)

A presentation of Greece by the Greek Embassy and the Press Office in Warsaw took place at the European Information Centre of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 19^th March 2010 (www.cie.gov.pl).
Various aspects of Greece were presented by the Deputy Head of Mission, Paraskevi Charitidou, and the Press Attache, Maria Mondelou.
The audience, 70  students of higher secondary schools of Warsaw, was informed about Greece`s geostrategic position, its political system, the participation in international organizations, such as the EU and the NATO, the Greek Presidencies in the EU.
A brief presentation of the Greek history, mainly during the modern and contemporary period, was followed by characteristic examples of Greek culture, in the fields of literature, poetry, music, theatre and cinema.
Views of the New Acropolis Museum were presented, as well as Greece`s request for the restitution of the Parthenon Marbles.
During the discussion, the students were informed about Greece`s foreign policy, the situation of the Greek economy, tourism, the educational system and the scholarships offered for foreign students. They were, also, particularly interested about the image of Poles in Greece and their life.
 The European Information Centre, that invited the Greek Embassy to make the presentation of Greece, organizes annually discussions with representatives of the EU member states.

Spotkanie z przedstawicielkami Ambasady Grecji

 19 marca 2010 r. w Centrum Informacji Europejskiej MSZ odbyło się spotkanie uczniów XL Liceum Ogólnokształcącego im. S. Żeromskiego oraz LXXV Liceum Ogólnokształcącego im. Jana III Sobieskiego w Warszawie z przedstawicielkami Ambasady Grecji. Ambasadę reprezentowały Pani Paraskevi Charitidou, zastępca szefa misji oraz Pani Maria Mondelou, Pierwszy Sekretarz w Biurze Prasowym Ambasady Grecji w Warszawie.
Prelegentki omówiły historię i system polityczny Grecji oraz aktualne działania Grecji w Unii Europejskiej. Opowiedziały również o warunkach studiowania w tym kraju i stypendiach dostępnych dla polskich studentów. Podczas prezentacji został wyświetlony krótki film o Atenach.
Po wykładzie miała miejsce dyskusja, w czasie której przedstawicielki Ambasady odpowiedziały na liczne pytania publiczności dotyczące stereotypów o Polakach, greckiej kultury, popularnych Greków, kryzysu gospodarczego, relacji z Turcją, aktualnego sporu między Grecją i Byłą Jugosłowiańską Republiką Macedonii przed Międzynarodowym Trybunałem Sprawiedliwości oraz doświadczeń czterech prezydencji Grecji w Radzie Unii Europejskiej.
W spotkaniu uczestniczyło ponad 70 osób.

Μια από τις πιο συναρπαστικές δοκιμασίες για τους συγγραφείς είναι χωρίς αμφιβολία η εγκατάλειψη της μητρικής τους γλώσσα και η απόφαση δημιουργίας σε μια ξένη γλώσσα.
Η διεθνής ημερίδα «Λογοτεχνία και Μετανάστευση», υπό την αιγίδα του  EUNIC Cluster Βαρσοβίας και της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής, θα εξετάσει το φαινόμενο «Λογοτεχνία και Μετανάστευση» στην Ευρώπη του 20^ου αιώνα, σε μια προσπάθεια αναζήτησης της ταυτότητας της σύγχρονης Ευρώπης.
Η ημερίδα αυτή αποτελεί μια ευκαιρία να συναντηθούν επιστήμονες που μελετούν το φαινόμενο της μεταναστευτικής λογοτεχνίας και συγγραφείς που αντιμετώπισαν την πρόκληση να γράψουν στην γλώσσα της θετής πατρίδας τους.
Θα εξηγήσουν τις αιτίες και τις συνέπειες των αποφάσεων τους, θα διαβάσουν  αποσπάσματα των έργων τους στο πρωτότυπο και θα απαντήσουν σε ερωτήσεις των συμμετεχόντων στην ημερίδα.
Έχουν προσκληθεί επιφανείς επιστήμονες (συζήτηση στις 12.00): Gazmend Kapllani (Ελλάδα), AndreasSchumann (Γερμανία), MirinaRuncan (Ρουμανία), SandraVlasta (Αυστρία), StenPultzMoslund (Δανία).

Jednym z najbardziej skrajnych doświadczeń dla pisarza jest bez wątpienia porzucenie języka ojczystego i podjęcie decyzji o tworzeniu w języku obcym. Międzynarodowa konferencja „Literatura i imigracja”, zorganizowana przez EUNIC Cluster Warszawa i Komisję Europejską – Przedstawicielstwo w Polsce*, pragnie przyjrzeć się zjawisku literatury emigracyjnej w Europie XXI w. i zbadać je z akademickiej i osobistej perspektywy. Chcemy spróbować znaleźć klucz do tożsamości współczesnej Europy.
Konferencja będzie niepowtarzalną okazją do spotkania naukowców badających zjawisko pisarstwa emigracyjnego oraz samych pisarzy, którzy podjęli wyzwanie tworzenia w języku swojej przybranej ojczyzny. Będą oni tłumaczyć powody i wyjaśniać konsekwencje swoich decyzji, a na zakończenie przeczytają fragmenty swoich utworów w oryginale oraz odpowiedzą na pytania uczestników.

Διάλεξη για την βενετοκρατούμενη Σητεία στο Πανεπιστήμιο Βαρσοβίας (23/2/2010)

Διάλεξη με θέμα «Η βενετοκρατούμενη Σητεία – Αρχειακή έρευνα για την ιστορία της πόλης» έδωσε η Γραμματέας Επικοινωνίας του Γραφείου Τύπου και Επικοινωνίας Βαρσοβίας, Μαρία Μονδέλου, στις 23 Φεβρουαρίου στο Πανεπιστήμιο Βαρσοβίας.
Πρόκειται για την δεύτερη διάλεξη που πραγματοποιείται ύστερα από πρόσκληση του Ινστιτούτου Διεπιστημονικών Σπουδών (Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies) “Artes Liberales” του Πανεπιστημίου της Βαρσοβίας, με πρωτοβουλία της καθηγήτριας Malgorzata Borowska, διευθύντριας του Τμήματος Νεοελληνικής Φιλολογίας.
Την διάλεξη παρακολούθησαν οι φοιτητές του Β΄ έτους της Νεοελληνικής Φιλολογίας, στο πλαίσιο του μαθήματος «Κρητικά αριστουργήματα της περιόδου της Αναγέννησης».
Παρουσιάστηκαν, αρχικά, τα κυριότερα χαρακτηριστικά της βενετικής κυριαρχίας στη Σητεία (πόλη και ύπαιθρος), κυρίως κατά την ύστερη περίοδο της Βενετοκρατίας (16^ος και 17^ος αι.), και αναλύθηκαν ορισμένοι από τους θεσμούς που εισήγαγε η Βενετία στην πόλη (διοικητική οργάνωση, εκκλησιαστικοί θεσμοί, δικαιοσύνη). Έγινε αναφορά, μεταξύ άλλων, στην κοινωνική διαστρωμάτωση της πόλης και της υπαίθρου, τις κοινωνικές σχέσεις, τα χαρακτηριστικά της οικονομίας, τη μορφή της πόλης και τον τρόπο ζωής των κατοίκων. Ιδιαίτερη μνεία έγινε στον καταγόμενο από την Σητεία Βιτσέντζο Κορνάρο, ποιητή του Ερωτόκριτου, έργο το οποίο αποτελεί αντικείμενο σπουδών των φοιτητών του Β΄ έτους.
Οι φοιτητές ενημερώθηκαν για τον τρόπο αναζήτησης ανέκδοτου αρχειακού υλικού σε Αρχεία και Βιβλιοθήκες της Ιταλίας, όπως το Κρατικό Αρχείο της Βενετίας, το Αρχείο του Βατικανού και η Μαρκιανή Βιβλιοθήκη της Βενετίας. Επισημάνθηκαν τα κυριότερα χαρακτηριστικά των πηγών (επίσημες πηγές, συμβολαιογραφικό αρχείο), καθώς και μερικά συμπεράσματα από τη μελέτη του υλικού, τα οποία παρουσιάζονται στην υπό εκπόνηση διδακτορική διατριβή της ομιλήτριας.
Τέλος, παρουσιάστηκαν στους φοιτητές αντίγραφα ανέκδοτων χειρογράφων της εποχής, τα οποία αναγνώστηκαν, με παράλληλη εξήγηση βασικών κανόνων  παλαιογραφίας.

Lecture “The Venetian Dominion in Sitia (Crete) – Research on the history of the town” (University of Warsaw, 23/2/2010) 

A lecture about “The Venetian  Dominion in Sitia (Crete) – Research on the history of the town” was hold by the Press Attachè of the Embassy of Greece in Warsaw, Maria Mondelou, on the 23rd February at the University of Warsaw.
It was the second lecture that took place, after the one on the 8^th of December 2009, following an invitation by the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies “Artes Liberales” of the University of Warsaw and the director at the Department of Modern Greek Philology, Malgorzata Borowska.
The lecture was attended by the students of the 4^th semester in Modern Greek Philology, that includes lessons on the subject “Cretan masterpieces of the Renaissance”.
Main aspects of the Venetian dominion in the territory of Sitia (town and villages), particularly during the late period of the Venetian dominion (16^th and 17^th centuries), as well as some of the institutions that Venice introduced in Sitia (administration, ecclesiastical institutions, justice etc.) were analysed. The social stratification in the town and the villages, the social relations, the characteristics of the economy, the form of the town and the way of life of the inhabitants were, also, described. A partiticular mention was made for Vitsentzos Kornaros, born in Sitia, famous for his poem “Erotokritos”, which is included in the studies of the Polish students.
The students were informed about the research of unpublished sources of archives, that was effected by the lecturer in Archives and Libraries in Italy, such as the National Archive of Venice, the Vatican Archives and the “Marciana”  Library of Venice. Main characteristics of the sources (official documents and notarial archives) were highlighted, as well as some of the results of the study, which are presented in the PhD of the lecturer.
Finally, copies of unedited documents of the 16^th century were presented and read to the students.

Wykład na temat Sitii pod panowaniem weneckim, wygłoszony na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim (23/2/2010)

Wykład pod tytułem „Sitia, pod panowaniem weneckim – badanie archiwalne na temat historii miasta” został wygłoszony przez Marię Mondelou, Attaché Prasowego Ambasady Grecji w dniu 23 lutego na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim.
Był to już drugi wykład wygłoszony pod otrzymaniu zaproszenia przez Instytut Studiów Interdyscyplinarnych „Artes Liberales” z inicjatywy profesor dr hab. Małgorzaty Borowskiej, Kierownika Wydziału Filologii Nowogreckiej. 
Wykład został wysłuchany przez studentów II roku filologii nowogreckiej w ramach zajęć „Kreteńskie arcydzieła okresu Odroczenia”.

The book of professor Ilias Wrazas

in Warsaw, held the event entitled “Greek Temptations” (Kuszenie Grekow), on Thursday November 5^th.
Ilias Vrazas, professor of modern Greek literature in Wroclaw University, presented his book “The Saviour of God. Tempations of Nikos Kazantzakis”. The book is focusing on Kazantzakis’ “Askitiki” (Salvatores Dei).
The presentation was moderated by the translator of Greek and English literature Ewa T. Szyler.
Following the presentation, Ilias Vrazas (song, guitar) and Isidoros Papadakis (violoncello, bouzuki) performed songs by contemporary Greek composers (Theodorakis, Markopoulos, etc.).
The opening of Michalis Hrisoulidis’ drawings exhibition was also held on the evening of the event. Michalis Hrisoulidis is a painter and stage designer, whose work “Thanatos” illustrates Ilias Vrazas book.

«Ο Σωτήρας του Θεού. Οι πειρασμοί του Νίκου Καζαντζάκη»

 Το Γραφείο Τύπου και Επικοινωνίας Βαρσοβίας – σε συνεργασία με το Αυστριακό Πολιτιστικό Ινστιτούτο της Βαρσοβίας– οργάνωσαν την Πέμπτη 5 Νοεμβρίου 2009 εκδήλωση με τίτλο «Ελληνικοί Πειρασμοί» (Kuszenie Grekow).
Ο Ηλίας Βράζας, καθηγητής σύγχρονης ελληνικής λογοτεχνίας στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Wroclaw, παρουσίασε το βιβλίο του «Ο Σωτήρας του Θεού. Οι πειρασμοί του Νίκου Καζαντζάκη», βιβλίο που πραγματεύεται την «Ασκητική» του Καζαντζάκη (Salvatores Dei).
Την παρουσίαση διηύθυνε η μεταφραστρια Ελληνικής και Αγγλικής λογοτεχνίας Ewa T. Szyler.
Μετά την παρουσίαση, ο Ηλίας Βράζας (τραγούδι, κιθάρα) και ο Ισίδωρος Παπαδάκης (βιολοντσέλο, μπουζούκι) έπαιξαν τραγούδια σύγχρονων Ελλήνων συνθετών (Θεοδωράκης. Μαρκόπουλος…).
Η βραδιά «Ελληνικοί πειρασμοί» περιελάμβανε και τα εγκαίνια της έκθεσης σχεδίων του Μιχάλη Χρυσουλίδη, ζωγράφου και σκηνογράφου, το έργο του οποίου «Θάνατος» κοσμεί το βιβλίο του Ηλία Βράζα.

Greece: Commemorating the Fall of the Berlin Wall

Tear Down the Last Wall!

Two decades have elapsed since November 9, 1989, when the border separating Western from Eastern Germany was effectively opened.

Prime Minister George Papandreou attended the events, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, held yesterday in Berlin. The premier called for the last wall still dividing a European city, Nicosia, to be brought down and stressed that “as Greeks and Europeans, we can shout: Tear down the last wall, the one that divides Cyprus into two.” In Berlin, Papandreou held also a meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, during which they discussed issues of mutual interest. Kathimerini daily: PM sets sights on Cyprus wall

“Breaking Down Walls, Building Bridges”

In Greece, the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall was commemorated in a special event, titled “Breaking down walls, building bridges” on November 8 at the City of AthensTechnopolis.

The President of the Hellenic Republic, Karolos Papoulias, Alternate Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas and the German Ambassador in Greece Wolfgang Schultheissaddressed the event, stressing the great importance of the fall of the Berlin wall, which has become the “symbol of freedom for all humanity.” The event organised under the auspices of the German Embassy in Athens. Droutsas also addressed the OSCE event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in Vienna on November 6.

Conference: The Image of Germany

Τhe Association of Greek Press Attachés and the German Embassy in Athens are holding, on November 12, a conference titled “The public image of Germany,” at the Amphitheatre of theTheocharakis Foundation.

The event is being held on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany, the 20th anniversary since the fall of the Wall and 10th anniversary since the transfer of the country’s capital from Bonn to Berlin.
Experts from Germany and Greece will discuss how the image of Germany has changed over the years, from the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany, until the fall of the Berlin Wall and the restoration of the unity of the country [Programme, in Greek]. Government Spokesman George Petalotis will address the event. International Communication Policy Forum: “The Public Image of Germany“

2nd “London Greek Film Festival 2009” Awards

Hellenic Centre and the London office of the GNTO supported and co-organised the second London Greek Film Festival. Among the people who followed the festival’s events were artists, film makers, producers, members of the Academia, reporters and so on.
The London Greek Film Festival is a unique opportunity for the Greek culture to reach the British public, while contributing in promoting Greek films as well as new film makers and actors.
On Sunday 1^st November the Odysseus awards ceremony took place at the Hellenic Centre. Key speakers at the ceremony were the Head of the Greek Press Office in London Mr Spyros Diamantis and the Head of the GNTO London Office Ms Sophia Panagiotaki.

The Script Award for short film at the 2^nd London Greek Film Festival 2009 was attributed to the script:  “Two Shoes on Wheels” of Stefanos Mondelos, based on the illustrated fairytale of Nikolaos Andrikopoulos (“Ellinika Grammata” editions).
This script was awarded for the second time recently, as it has received the 3^rd Award for Adapted Script for short film by the Hellenic Book Center.

Τα βραβεία του: «2ου London Greek Film Festival»

Με στόχο την προβολή του ελληνικού κινηματογράφου, αλλά και γενικότερα την προβολή της χώρας μας στη Μεγάλη Βρετανία, πραγματοποιήθηκε φέτος στο Λονδίνο για δεύτερη συνεχή χρονιά από τις 30 Οκτωβρίου έως την 1^η Νοεμβρίου το Φεστιβάλ Ελληνικού Κινηματογράφου, το οποίο συνδιοργανώθηκε από το Γ.Τ.Ε. Λονδίνου, το Hellenic Centre και τον ΕΟΤ.
Στα πλαίσια του Φεστιβάλ, το κοινό είχε την ευκαιρία να παρακολουθήσει 41 ταινίες μικρού μήκους – με αγγλικούς υπότιτλους – οι περισσότερες από τις οποίες παρουσιάστηκαν για πρώτη φορά στη Μεγάλη Βρετανία. Στις προβολές που πραγματοποιήθηκαν στις δύο ημέρες που διήρκεσε το Φεστιβάλ, συμπεριλαμβάνονταν ταινίες μυθοπλασίας, επιστημονικής φαντασίας, ντοκυμαντέρ, ταινίες κινουμένων σχεδίων (animation), ταινίες μικρού μήκους, και video art. Επίσης, παρουσιάστηκαν σενάρια για ταινίες επιστημονικής φαντασίας και για ταινίες μικρού μήκους.
Την πρώτη μέρα του Φεστιβάλ (Παρασκευή 30 Οκτωβρίου) παραγωγοί και σκηνοθέτες είχαν την ευκαιρία να λάβουν μέρος στο Informational Networking Event με τίτλο Shooting in Greece: Ένα εργαστήρι, στα πλαίσια του οποίου, οι συμμετέχοντες είχαν τη δυνατότητα να ενημερωθούν σε βάθος από τους αρμοδίους και να λάβουν κάθε είδους πληροφορίες όσον αφορά την κινηματογράφηση στην Ελλάδα, (επίσης πληροφορίες για ελληνικές εταιρείες παραγωγής, για σημεία ειδικού ενδιαφέροντος στην Ελλάδα, για χρηματοδοτήσεις κλπ). Το Φεστιβάλ περιλάμβανε επίσης συζητήσεις, παρουσιάσεις σεναρίων και διοργάνωση εργαστηρίων (workshops).
Την Κυριακή 1^η Νοεμβρίου, ημέρα λήξης του Φεστιβάλ, απονεμήθηκαν στο Hellenic Centre τα βραβεία Odysseus. Κεντρικοί ομιλητές στην τελετή απονομής των βραβείων ήταν ο Σπύρος Διαμαντής, επικεφαλής του Γ.Τ.Ε. Λονδίνου, η Σοφία Παναγιωτάκη, Διευθύντρια του Γραφείου ΕΟΤ και ο Διευθυντής του Φεστιβάλ, Χρήστος Προσύλης.
Το Βραβείο Σεναρίου μικρού μήκους ταινίας στο 2nd London Greek Film Festival 2009 έλαβε το σενάριο “Δυό Παπούτσια με Καρότσι”  του Στέφανου Μονδέλου, βασισμένο στο ομώνυμο εικονογραφημένο παραμύθι του Νικόλαου Ανδρικόπουλου (εκδ. Ελληνικά Γράμματα). Το συγκεκριμένο σενάριο βραβεύεται για δεύτερη φορά, μετά το 3ο Βραβείο Διασκευασμένου Σεναρίου για ταινία μικρού μήκους που έλαβε εφέτος, στον Διαγωνισμό Διασκευασμένου Σεναρίου που διοργανώνεται για πέμπτη συνεχή χρονιά από το Εθνικό Κέντρο Βιβλίου.

The website, created by the Press and Communication Office of the Greek Embassy in Warsaw, has recently surpassed the 107.000 visitors, with an average of 200 views per day.
Visitors’ preferences regard Greece today. Mostly visited is info about monuments and touristic destinations in Greece. Various other categories of news on politics, economy, culture (archaeology, history, theater, books, cinema, art, photography), mass media etc. attract the attention of visitors.

Warsaw / Celebrating European Day of Languages (26 & 27/9)

Celebrating “European Day of Languages”, a project that promotes linguistic and cultural diversity in Europe, ten Cultural Institutes and Embassies – members of EUNIC Warsaw Cluster (EU National Institutes for Culture) – including the Greek Embassy in Warsaw, organized a two days cultural event at Zloty Tarasy , a multifunctional complex in the center of Warsaw (26 & 27/9).

The participation of Greece was coordinated by the Greek Press and Communication Office in Warsaw in collaboration with the Center for Hellenic Studies in Warsaw University.

The program included public lessons and story telling, educational competitions

(such as “treasure hunt”), and music events, while participating institutions provided promotional material for the languages involved.

The Greek participation featured soprano Katarzyna Gojny, performing songs of Theodorakis, Loizos and Kougioumtzis, rearranged by Odysseas Konstantinopoulos.   PHOTOS :
