New Chania Archaeological Museum

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)  The municipality of Chania, on the island of Crete, will soon have a new Archaeological Museum, which is set to be built in the historic Halepa quarter, close to the sea. Construction will begin sometime in 2008. The vast archaeological collection, part of Cretan history, has been housed for the past 46 years in a Franciscan monastery in the city. Eventually, the works will be transferred to the new museum. Designed by architect Theofanis Bobotis, the new building is a modern expression of the contemporary era, but also makes references to the ancient past.  Kathimerini daily: Chania making strides into the new century
