Greek Expatriate Press Exhibition

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)  The 6th Exhibition of Expatriate Press will soon be open. The event is organised by the Secretariat General of Communication / Information in collaboration with the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the World Council for Hellenes Abroad and the Cyprian Foundation “Aristotelion” for the Study and Promotion of the Expatriate Press. More than 350 expatriate newspapers and magazines dating back to1900 till today, as well as 250 cover pages from the Cyprus Press will be presented. Moreover, the visitors will be given the opportunity to obtain information online about the history and the activities of the Greek expatriate media.

On the occasion of the exhibition’s inauguration, honourable prizes were given to expatriate journalists for their major contribution to the promotion of the ‘Greek voice’ abroad. The exhibition was held from March 14 until April 6 at the Municipality Cultural Centre in Thessaloniki. Secretariat General for Information:  www.minpress.gr & About Greece- Greeks Abroad; Secretariat General for Greeks Abroad: www.ggae.gr

President’s of Greece Message to Hellenes Abroad

President of the Republic Karolos Papoulias on Tuesday addressed a holiday message to Greeks living abroad, stressing that their native country Greece will always be proud of their progress and their various successes in their adopted homeland. “This difficult time demands that all Greeks, both those of the metropolitan centre and those abroad, strengthen even more the bonds that unite us.” he said.

Karamanlis – Obama hold telephone talks

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)   Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis held a telephone conversation with U.S. President-elect Barakaramanliskaramanlis1ck Obama yesterday, congratulating him on his election and stressing that he is looking forward to meeting him in the near future. Karamanlis told Obama that he appreciates the clear and steadfast position which he has expressed on a number of issues of Greek interest and added that he hopes for the bilateral cooperation to be reinforced even further, especially through the Greek-American Community which has so far contributed immensely to this end. On his part, Obama thanked the prime minister and underlined his esteem for the work of the Greek-American Community, members of which have been already placed in high ranks of his team. He further acknowledged Greece’s role in crafting solutions to many European issues and expressed his will to visit the country in the future. Greek Expats

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)   Fifty expatriates, who wish to study in Greece or become permanent residents, will have the opportunity to learn the Greek language with the help of special computer software. The World Council of Hellenes Abroad’s (SAE) three-month pilot programme will take place at the organization’s offices in Thessaloniki. The programme, funded by the General Secretariat for Youth, aims at promoting Greek cultural heritage and linguistic identity with the use of new technologies.
