To kilka tysięcy lat historii i przebogate dziedzictwo kulturowe. Kolebka całej cywilizacji zachodniej, miejsce narodzin demokracji, filozofii, igrzysk olimpijskich. To również królestwo dobrej kuchni i biesiadowania. Ojczyzna niedocenionych lub słabo znanych greckich win. Trzeba ten stan zmienić:

Tourism: Strong Numbers (analysis)

A Global Tourism Destination

Greece is one of the top tourism destinations in the world. In fact Lonely Planet placed Greece among its top 10 destinations for 2010 and the Greek Islands were voted the best island destination in the world globally by Conde Nast readers in 2011.

The number of tourism visits over the last decade has shown a steady increase. From 14.2 million international visitors in 2004, more than 17 million people visited Greece in 2010, and it is expected that in a few years this number will reach 20 million, almost twice the country’s population.

The increasing number of tourists and the evolving profile of today’s traveler demand a host of new tourism offerings and infrastructure projects. In Greece, investors will find a wide spectrum of opportunities, a welcome environment for new investment, and some of the most beautiful locations in the world.

Tourism Industry Strengthened—Three Factors
In addition to the increased number of arrivals reported in 2011, the tourism industry as a whole strengthened in 2011, mainly due to a) the reduction of VAT for hotels, enhancing their competitiveness, b) simplified procedures for travel documents, particularly boosting Russian arrivals and c) partial lifting of restrictions for the cruise industry.

Olympic Link to a 2,100 Years Old Calkulator

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)   More than a hundred years ago an extraordinary mechanism was found by sponge divers at the bottom of the sea near the island of Antikythera. It astonished the whole international community of experts on the ancient world. Was it an astrolabe? Was it an orrery or an astronomical clock? Or something else? For decades, scientific investigation failed to yield much light and relied more on imagination than the facts. However research over the last half century has begun to reveal its secrets. The Antikythira mechanim dates from approximately the 1st century B.C. and is the most sophisticated mechanism known in the ancient world. Nothing as complex had been manufactured for the next thousand years. A new paper from the Antikythera Mechanism Research Project (www.antikythera-mechanism.gr) is published in the prestige science journal Nature on July 31st 2008. It reveals surprising results on the back dials of the Antikythera Mechanism – including a dial dedicated to the four-year Olympiad Cycle of athletic games in ancient Greece. Replanting the burned Greek forests

SEEDS OF HOPE >>> Drive to Reforestation

The replanting of burnt pine forests on Mount Penteli, north of Athens, is to begin on Sunday, January 13, in a reforestation drive backed mainly by Greek-American and Cypriot ‘pro-green’ businesspeople based abroad. The initiative to reforest areas of Athens stricken by last summer’s destructive fires was launched last autumn. The most recent addition features ‘Plant your Roots in Greece’, a U.S. and Athens-based organisation which operates under the auspices of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) and the Hellenic American National Council. The organisation has been very active in Greece since 1999, and is planning a second round of tree plantings during 2008 at the archaeological site of Dion, Pieria, northern Greece, and on the Cassandra peninsula, Halkidiki, northern Greece, which was devastated by wildfires in 2006.
