Greek Tourism – Oswiadczenie Greckiej Minister Kultury i Turystyki Tatiany Karapanagioti – Statement by Minister of Culture and Tourism Tatiana Karapanagioti (Athens, 22/5/2012)

Niedawno mianowana Grecka Minister Kultury i Turystyki, Tatiana Karapanagioti, wydała to oświadczenie w następstwie odprawy Premiera Panagiotisa Pikrammenosa, tymczasowego przewodniczącego rządu.
„Grecja jest tutaj tak jak zawsze była i tak jak zawsze będzie, oferując turystom unikalne przeżycia podróżnicze. Nasz kraj jest piękny, a dziedzictwo kulturowe bogate jak wcześniej.
Nic się nie zmieniło, przynajmniej w legendarnej greckiej gościnności, która przyjęła miliony odwiedzających przez lata, włączając rekordową ilość16,5 miliona w 2011 roku.
Odbyłam rozległe dyskusje z przewodnimi stowarzyszeniami branży turystycznej. Każdy wyraził silne zaangażowanie by zapewnić, że wakacyjne doznania w Grecji są tak bogate i satysfakcjonujące jak zawsze były.
Grecja jest tak ponadczasowa jak i serdeczne powitanie greków. W ten sposób zawsze było – i 2012 rok nie będzie wyjątkiem.”
Greece is offering tourists a unique travel experience, with its beautiful land and rich cultural heritage, said interim Culture and Tourism minister Tatiana Karapanagioti, following a meeting with Prime Minister Panagiotis Pikrammenos, on May 22. After noting the legendary Greek hospitality, which has embraced millions of visitors over the years, the minister assured that everyone in the tourism industry has expressed a strong commitment to ensuring that the Greek holiday experience is as rich and rewarding as it has always been.

Prime Minister Pikrammenos also met with Dr. Andreas Andreadis, President of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE) and discussed the effects of Greece’s economic crisis on tourism. The SETE president assured the PM that the quality of holidays in Greece is not affected by the economic upheaval in any way, highlighting that the country remains one of the most desired destinations worldwide and this summer will be “business as usual.”

Greek film “Harisma” in “The Awakening of the Summer” events in Warsaw (17-18/6/2011)

Some 2000 people gathered in the park  surrounding the Center of Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw on the night of 17 to 18 of June, waiting for the dawn to break and officially start summer 2011.
The Press Office of the Greek Embassy participated in the event, screening the film “Harisma”, a comedy directed by Christina Ioakeimidi in 2010.  
The first nights of summer are strongly connected with the atmosphere of an ancient midsummer St. John’s Night. These nights are filled with growing craziness, pleasure, ecstasy, romance, desire, love, energy and allure.
Ujazdowski Castle hosted such a special night organized in close cooperation with  EUNIC in Poland  Warsaw. On one indoor and three outdoor screens a rich choice of European films were offered ranging from crazy colorful Austrian Pepperminta, hot romance animation from Great Britain  to scary Nosferatu  from Germany. The night was heathen up with performances of the Estonian band OPIUM Flirt, the Dutch/Danish/Polish band Très.B and a Romanian DJ. In addition there were dance performances and food and drinks served from various European countries.
17 members of EUNIC in Poland Warsaw contributed to the event.
At 10.00 p.m. the vice-president of the cluster opened the program underlying that “The Awakening of the Summer” is a symbolic present to Poland that for the first time in history is taking over the EU presidency on the 1st of July. EUNIC members wanted to express their support and gratitude for the hospitality they have been experiencing in Poland.
The program ended at 4.00 a.m. with breakfast at sunrise.

Αγώνες Special Olympics στην Πολωνία (18-24/9/2010)-Ελληνική συμμετοχή

Από τις 18 ως τις 24 Σεπτεμβρίου πραγματοποιήθηκαν στη Βαρσοβία οι Ευρωπαϊκοί Αγώνες Special Olympics, με την συμμετοχή 1.600 αθλητών από 57 χώρες της Ευρώπης και της Ευρασίας.
Στους αγώνες συμμετείχε και ελληνική αποστολή 86 αθλητών, δηλώνοντας με την παρουσία της – πέρα από το μήνυμα της αποδοχής της διαφορετικότητας και της ενθάρρυνσης της συμμετοχής ατόμων με διανοητική αναπηρία σε κοινωνικές και αθλητικές δραστηριότητες – την ενεργό προετοιμασία της Ελλάδας για τους επόμενους Παγκόσμιους Αγώνες Special Olympics (XIII Special Olympics World Summer Games) που θα πραγματοποιηθούν στην Αθήνα το καλοκαίρι του 2011.
Στην τελετή έναρξης των Αγώνων Special Olympics στις 18 Σεπτεμβρίου, παρευρέθηκε και ο έλληνας ευρωβουλευτής Γιώργος Σταυρακάκης, ο οποίος σημείωσε ότι η «Φλόγα της Ελπίδας» μετά την αφή της στην Αλεξανδρούπολη στις 5 Σεπτεμβρίου ταξίδεψε  σε οκτώ ευρωπαϊκές πόλεις για να φθάσει τελικά στη Βαρσοβία για την τελετή έναρξης των Αγώνων.
Ο κ. Σταυρακάκης υπογράμμισε την σημασία των Αγώνων Special Olympics ως το μεγαλύτερο αθλητικό γεγονός για άτομα με διανοητικές δυσκολίες, τονίζοντας την αναγκαιότητα στήριξης –και μέσω του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου- των προσεχών Παγκόσμιων Αγώνων Special Olympics στην Αθήνα, που στόχο έχουν όχι μόνο να ενισχύσουν περαιτέρω τα ολυμπιακά ιδεώδη της άμιλλας και του εθελοντισμού, αλλά και να βοηθήσουν στην ένταξη στο κοινωνικό σύνολο περιθωριοποιημένων ανθρώπων, καθώς και στην κοινωνική συνοχή.

Enjoy a Movie under the stars in Athens

The arrival of summer in Athens is a big event: the high temperatures and the sweet climate just won’t let anyone stay at home. One of the most popular summer activities of the Athenians, as for back as the early ’50s, is the open-air cinema tradition.
Catching a movie in an open-air cinema means that winter is gone for good. Athens is home of more than 30 open-air cinemas, located on terraces, and gardens or jammed between apartment blocks. “Zefyros” in the beautiful Athenian neighborhood of Petralona, “Thission” in Dionysiou Aeropagitou pedestrian precinct or “Vox”” on a terrace in Exarchia square to name but a few.
The movies that are usually projected are reruns of first-run films from the winter period and remakes of famous classical movies.Watching movies under the starry sky, while enjoying your cold drink is a unique experience and the best choice for the warm summer nights in the city.

Άρθρο για τα προβλήματα του ελληνικού τουρισμού και την εκστρατεία προβολής “You in Greece” στην πολωνική εφημερίδα “Gazeta Wyborcza”

Η εφημερίδα Gazeta Wyborcza (5/7) στις οικονομικές σελίδες, με τίτλο «Η Ελλάδα εξακολουθεί να αγαπά τους τουρίστες» και «Ο πειρασμός των τουριστών, δηλαδή χωρίς αλλαγή στην Ελλάδα», δημοσιεύει ολοσέλιδο ρεπορτάζ των Patrycja Maciejewicz και Leszek Baj που αναφέρεται στη μείωση της τουριστικής κίνησης προς την Ελλάδα λόγω των αναταραχών και των απεργιών και στην εκστρατεία που αναλαμβάνει η Ελλάδα για την αποτροπή των δυσμενών τάσεων στον κλάδο του τουρισμού.
Στην εισαγωγή τονίζεται ότι «μπορεί να υπάρξει κι άλλο ένα δύσκολο καλοκαίρι για τον τομέα του τουρισμού στην Ελλάδα. Το περασμένο έτος οι Γερμανοί και οι Βρετανοί, εξαιτίας της κρίσης, πιο σπάνια επισκέπτονταν τα ελληνικά νησιά. Φέτος οι τουρίστες απωθούνται από τις συχνές απεργίες».
Στο δημοσίευμα επισημαίνεται ότι «πλέον κανένας δεν είναι σε θέση να μετρήσει πόσες μαζικές απεργίες πραγματοποιήθηκαν στην Ελλάδα, από τότε που, πριν μερικούς μήνες η κυβέρνηση στην Αθήνα αποφάσισε να εισάγει δραστικές μεταρρυθμίσεις, μεταξύ άλλων περιορίζοντας τους φόρους και αυξάνοντας την ηλικία συνταξιοδότησης. Οι Έλληνες βγαίνουν στους δρόμους αν και γνωρίζουν ότι η κατάσταση των δημοσίων οικονομικών της χώρας τους είναι σε μια αξιοθρήνητη κατάσταση, ενώ το χρέος αγγίζει τα 300 δις. ευρώ».
Στο δημοσίευμα, αφού σημειώνεται ότι η απεργία που διοργανώθηκε στις ελληνικές πόλεις για άλλη μια φορά παρέλυσε τις μεταφορές, απέκοψε την πρόσβαση σε υπηρεσίες και μουσεία, απέκλισε επίσης πολλούς τουρίστες στα λιμάνια της χώρας, προβάλλονται δηλώσεις τουριστών, όπου περιγράφονται οι δυσκολίες που αντιμετώπισαν στις μεταβάσεις τους (δυσκολίες στη μετακίνηση προς Σαντορίνη για γάμο, αδυναμία επίσκεψης στο Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο κλπ).

Στο δημοσίευμα τονίζεται ότι ο τουρισμός αποτελεί έναν από τους σημαντικότερους τομείς της ελληνικής οικονομίας και ανταποκρίνεται στο 1/5 του ΑΕΠ της χώρας και το περασμένο έτος ο ελληνικός τουρισμός πληγώθηκε από τις συνέπειες της παγκόσμιας κρίσης.
Στο δημοσίευμα προβάλλονται δηλώσεις του Marcin Przybylski, Προέδρου του τουριστικού γραφείου TravelPlanet, o οποίος σημειώνει ότι «οι Γερμανοί και οι Βρετανοί πιο σπάνια επισκέπτονταν τα περασμένα έτη την Ελλάδα. Φέτος λόγω των πολλών απεργιών ο ξενοδοχειακός τομέας στην Ελλάδα υπολογίζει ότι ο αριθμός των τουριστών θα μειωθεί κατά 10%. Οι Γερμανοί και οι Άγγλοι, οι οποίοι αποτελούν την πληθέστερη ομάδα που επισκέπτεται την Ελλάδα και με αισθητό τρόπο αναθεώρησαν τα σχέδια των διακοπών τους. Οι Έλληνες κάνουν το παν για να εξασφαλίσουν σε αυτούς που έφθασαν τις καλύτερες συνθήκες».
Στο ρεπορτάζ τονίζεται ότι «οι ιδιοκτήτες των πολωνικών τουριστικών γραφείων τους τελευταίους μήνες προσεύχονταν ώστε τελικά να πάψει να γίνεται λόγος για την ελληνική κρίση».
Στη συνέχεια προβάλλονται δηλώσεις του Marek Andryszak, Προέδρου του τουριστικού γραφείου TUI Poland, όπου σημειώνεται ότι «ο πελάτης αγόραζε εκδρομή στην Ελλάδα επτά μέρες πριν από την αεροπορική αναχώρηση και μόνο όταν γνώριζε ότι η τιμή είναι πολύ ελκυστική. Στη διάρκεια του Ιουνίου πουλούσαμε διακοπές σε ξενοδοχεία τεσσάρων αστέρων σε τιμή περίπου 1200 ζλότυ το άτομο, την στιγμή που η αεροπορική μετακίνηση κοστίζει 200 Ευρώ (πάνω από 800 ζλότυ). Οι πελάτες δίσταζαν διότι είχαν να αντιμετωπίσουν μια νέα κατάσταση: αναταραχές, οικονομικά προβλήματα κλπ. Για αυτό το λόγο για τις οργανώσεις που προωθούν διακοπές στην Ελλάδα το σημαντικότερο είναι να προβληθεί μια εικόνα της χώρας διαφορετική από αυτή που προκύπτει από τις τηλεοπτικές σύντομες σκηνές. Αναμένεται να βοηθήσει σε αυτό η εκστρατεία «You in Greece», όπου αποκλειστικά ξένοι τουρίστες επαινούν τις διακοπές στην Ελλάδα».
Στο δημοσίευμα προβάλλονται αποσπάσματα δηλώσεων ξένων τουριστών από το DVD για την Ελλάδα και τονίζεται ότι «σε ειδικό φυλλάδιο ο ελληνικός οργανισμός τουρισμού προσπαθεί να ξεμαγέψει τους μύθους για τη χώρα. Διαβεβαιώνει ότι είναι μια ασφαλής χώρα (επικαλούμενη στοιχεία του Eurostat για τα μικρά ποσοστά εγκληματικότητας), μια πολιτισμένη χώρα (πάνω από το ήμισυ των πολιτών αποδέχεται τα σχέδια εξυγίανσης των οικονομικών του κράτους που αποφάσισε η κυβέρνηση και ότι ο αριθμός των διαδηλώσεων είναι χαμηλότερος από το μέσο όρο».

Στο δημοσίευμα φιλοξενείται δήλωση της Προϊσταμένης του Γραφείου Τύπου και Επικοινωνίας Βαρσοβίας, Βασιλικής Γκάργκουλα, όπου τονίζεται ότι «μετά τις μαζικές διαδηλώσεις και τις γενικές απεργίες στις αρχές Μαΐου, ένα μέρος των ξένων Μ.Μ.Ε. παρουσίαζαν την Ελλάδα ως “μια χώρα που βυθίζεται στο χάος, ενώ τα θανάσιμα θύματα αποτελούν καθημερινότητα”.
Στο δημοσίευμα επισημαίνεται το εξής: «Όπως διαβεβαιώνει η κα Γκάργκουλα οι τουρίστες δεν αισθάνονται τις συνέπειες των αναταραχών στην Ελλάδα. Οι ναυλωμένες πτήσεις τους μεταφέρουν απευθείας στην Κρήτη, τη Ρόδο, την Κω ή την Κέρκυρα».
«Στα ελληνικά νησιά ο χρόνος κυλά ειδυλλιακά και αγγελικά. Μεγαλύτερο πρόβλημα μπορεί να αντιμετωπίσουν όσοι επιλέγουν δική τους μετακίνηση και ενδέχεται να αντιμετωπίσουν μια απεργία στον Πειραιά», προσθέτει ο Marcin Przybylski, Πρόεδρος του TravelPlanet.
Στο ρεπορτάζ παρατηρείται ότι «την τελευταία εβδομάδα τα γραφεία ζουν μια επιδρομή πελατών. Ξεκίνησαν οι διακοπές και αυτοί που δεν αγόρασαν ακόμη τα πακέτα διακοπών, έχουν ελάχιστο χρόνο. Ο Πρόεδρος του TUI Poland δηλώνει ότι την παρούσα στιγμή στο γραφείο η πώληση εκδρομών στην Ελλάδα είναι κατά ένα πέμπτο πιο υψηλή από ότι πριν από μερικούς μήνες, τα προβλήματα της Ελλάδας βρίσκονταν στα χείλη ολόκληρου του κόσμου, ενώ πάνω από την Ευρώπη αιωρείτο η ηφαιστειακή τέφρα από την Ισλανδία.
Και μακροπρόθεσμα δεν φαίνεται πως οι Πολωνοί θα κουραστούν με τις διακοπές στη νότια Ευρώπη. Δεν αναμένουμε μείωση του ενδιαφέροντος για τα επόμενα 10-15 χρόνια. Οι Πολωνοί λιάζονται στην Αίγυπτο, την Τυνησία, την νότια Ευρώπη μόλις τα τελευταία 20 χρόνια. Οι Γερμανοί, οι Άγγλοι μερικές δεκάδες χρόνια.  Πρέπει μερικές φορές ακόμη να αναχωρήσουμε στις ζεστές θάλασσες για να έχουμε την επιθυμία να περάσουμε τις διακοπές με άλλον τρόπο, δηλώνει καταληκτικά ο Marcin Przybylski.

Greek tourism is about to be given an image boost – through the launch of the latest advertising campaign “You in Greece.”
The campaign aims to promote the country as an attractive tourist destination, but also provide the media with useful statistics on tourism, while shedding light on little known information regarding this year’s tourism prospects.

This Summer, We Travel to Greece
Another goal is to appeal to the Greek Diaspora to visit and promote Greece abroad.

A two-month campaign has been launched under the motto “This Summer We Travel to Greece” by the bilingual Greek-American newspaper “Greek News” addressed to the Diaspora Greeks, and philhellenes.

2010 Reasons to Visit Greece

The exhibition titled “2010 reasons to visit Greece” is taking place once again at London’s Harrods department store. The Secretary – General of the World Tourism Organisation, Taleb Rifai, called Greece “one of the most important destinations in the world and a point of reference for us all.”

So Far Yet So Close

Boundaries in the Chinese market seem to be lifted one by one as increasingly more Chinese explore Greece every year.

Last year, 48 million Chinese travelled abroad but only one million visited Europe.
Chinese tour operators expect this number to increase in the future, stressing that Greece should consider capitalizing on educational tourism.

Summer learning

 The College Year in Athens

The “College Year in Athens,” a study-abroad programme focused on Greek history and civilization, offers foreign students university-level courses on Greece and the eastern Mediterranean world.
In addition to classes taking place in Athens, an annual project is held on the island of Paros.

The Hellenic Language School

The “Alexander the Great” Hellenic Language School offers courses to foreigners. The school has branches in Thessaloniki and Chania in Greece, in Sophia and Plovdiv, Bulgaria, in Skopjie, F.Y.R.O.M, and Tirana, Albania.

Hellenic Culture Centre

The “Hellenic Culture Centre” offers Greek language courses to foreigners. While classes are held in Athens, the institute organises an Easter and summer language teaching programme on the island of Lesvos. 

   

The Athens Centre

The “Athens Centre” language programme consists of Greek language courses held in Athens and a three week summer session on the island of Spetses, which apart from the typical language classes, includes extra cultural activities.

The Greek House

The “Greek House” in Athens is a centre for language lessons and culture. The school’s aim is to provide students with a wide range of courses, seminars, lectures and art exhibitions.

Ikarian Centre

Greek Language courses can be a fruitful experience for foreigners on the island of Ikaria.

The “Ikarian Centre” runs a summer Greek Language School combining learning with entertainment.

Summer Programme in Crete

The Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA is organising a summer programme in Crete for those students who wish to spend four weeks on the island, studying the culture of Crete. 

Thessaloniki International Summer School

The International Summer School for Greek Language, History and Culture of the Institute for Balkan Studies offers summer courses for non-native speakers.  The courses include an intensive language teaching programme plus a special Greek history and culture class.

“Apollon”: Athens 2011 Special Olympics Mascot

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA) Athens will host the Special Olympics World Summer Games in 2011. During a press conference held yesterday (December 8), at Zappeion Hall, the Athens 2011 Organising Committee launched “Apollon,” the Games’ mascot, a radiant sun named after the God of Sun in Greek mythology. The sun was chosen as “a source of life that underlines the excellence and power of the athletes participating in the Games,” said Ioanna Despotopoulou, President of the 2011 Athens Special Olympics Organising Committee. With the slogan “I AM IN,” “Apollon” invites all people to join the “Wonderful Winning World” of the Games. Comparative Folklore

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)  The Department of History and Archaeology at the University of Ioannina and the student academic network “Border Crossing” are hosting the fourth summer school in “Anthropology, Ethnography and Comparative Folklore of the Balkans.” The summer school is taking place from July 29 to August 13 in Konitsa, northwestern Greece.

The World of Erotokritos

The Municipality of Siteia and Prefectural Authority of Lasithi in eastern Crete are hosting a three-day international scientific conference from July 31 to August 2 on world-renowned Siteia poet Vitsentzos Kornaros, who wrote the epic poem “Erotokritos.” The conference is titled “The World of Erotokritos: Erotokritos in the World.” Speakers include Cambridge University professor David Holton and Boston College professor of Classical Studies Dia Philippides.

Behavioural Finance

The fourth Advanced Summer School in Economics and Econometrics begins at the Rethymno University campus in Crete on August 2.  Hosted by the University of Crete, the summer school focuses on “Behavioral Finance” and will run through August 9.

Athens Cultural Summer 2009

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)   The City of Athens, via its Cultural Organisation, invites one and all to join a major celebration this summer featuring 586 events that will take place in squares, open spaces and theatres around the city.  The events harmoniously combine traditions and contemporary ideas and offer something for everyone, including residents, children and visitors to Athens. The basic components of the “Cultural Summer 2009” programme are European Music Day featuring 27 events, the ‘Culture for All’ programme with 430 events, the Athens Festival with 118 events and the 7th Athens International Dance Festival with 12 performances.

Greece: Hydra’s Ecology University

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA)   The 11^th summer Ecology University will be held this year on the island of Hydra, from July 6 to 24, with four-hour seminars for teachers, environmentalists, engineers, local government officials, students and anyone interested in the latest news and trends in environmental science and sustainable development.  The theme this year is water conservation. Free Summer School in Greece

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA) Americans and Canadians of Greek origin, aged 17 to 23, will be meeting in Kalamata this July to take classes in Greek language, history, philosophy and culture. The summer school will also include field trips to archaeological sites, museums, and more.  Held annually since 2006 and organised by the University of Peloponnese, in Kalamata and the Pan-Messinian Federation of USA and Canada (www.pan-messinian.com), the aim of the summer programme is to enhance Hellenic education by “providing an immersion experience in contemporary Greek culture.”

Greek Participation at Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games

The Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games take place from September 6 to 17. The 69 Greek Paralympic athletes left Athens on August 29 for the eleven-day sports event. The Greek team counts 53 men and 16 women, who will compete in power lifting, swimming, boccia, cycling, shooting, athletics, archery, judo, sailing, wheelchair tennis and wheelchair fencing.
