Magazyn kulturalny “Kikimora” – Wydanie poświęcone Grecji (lato 2012)

Kwartalny magazyn kulturalny “Kikimora” (wydanie lato 2012, numer 11, s. 200, http://www.kiki-mora.pl), który kierowany jest do rodziców i trendsetterów, specjalizujący się w sztuce, stylu życia, edukacji, projektowaniu itd. opublikował pod tytułem “Hellada” wydanie poświęcone Grecji.
Przed wydaniem publikacji, wydawca Jacek Rekuc oraz redaktor naczelna Agnieszka Marszałek współpracowali z Biurem Prasowym i Komunikacji oraz z Biurem ds. Handlowych i Ekonomicznych Ambasady Grecji w Warszawie.

Magazyn zawiera obszerne artykuły poświęcone modzie dla dzieci i trendom w Grecji (np. fotograficzny reportaż mody inspirowany starożytnymi igrzyskami olimpijskimi, starożytną grecką filozofią oraz mitologią  – patrz «Olympic Games», «Philosophy», “Καλημέρα”, «Σ», «Τhere is no place for Gods»), greckiej modzie oraz wpływami starożytnej Grecji, greckim kreatorom mody (np. Maria Katrantzou), greckim projektantom mody i kreatorom nowoczesnych form sztuki w Grecji  (kino, fotografia), młodym artystom greckim itp.

Równocześnie publikowane są rozmowy poświęcone mieszanym grecko – polskim rodzinom (wywiady zostały przeprowadzone z rodzinami Gmochów, Vasileiadis’ów i Vafidisów) i opisują życie rodzinne w Polsce (święta, zwyczaje, itp.) oraz podkreślają  znaczenie rodziny w Grecji i Polsce.
W słowie wstępnym redaktor naczelna magazynu Agnieszka Marszałek twierdzi, że “rodzina ma się dobrze, greckie kino i dizajn, literatura rozwija się – być może kryzys pozytywnie wpłynie na kulturę i sztukę Grecji. Być może wierność rodzinie, tradycji, ideałom uratuje Greków”.

W sekcji pt “Ateny” prezentowane są atrakcje idealne dla wizyt rodzinnych, propozycje wycieczek, festiwali, wystaw, rozrywki i zakupów w greckiej stolicy (Greckie Muzeum Dziecięce, Muzeum Benakisa, Muzeum Dotyku, Park Uwrażliwienia Środowiskowego im.  Antonis’a Tritsisa, Technopolis, Galeria Rzeźby, dzielnica Monastiraki, kina letnie, sklep muzyczne, galerie, sklepy mody, itp.).
W obszernych artykułach poświęconych greckiej sztuce prezentowane jest greckie kino, zwłaszcza twórczość reżyserki Athiny Rachel Tsangari, muzyka, w rozmowie z grecko-polskim muzykiem i wydawcą Costas’em Georgakopoulos’em, założycielem festiwalu “Art Avant”, fotografia poprzez wywiad z fotografem Christiną Dimitriadis (rozmowa zatytułowana “Wierzę w duchy pamięci”), literatura (publikacja poświęcona pisarzowi Christosowi Tsiolkas zatytułowana “Straszne dziecko starej Grecji”), komiksy i artykuł o  Apostolos’ie Doxiadis’ie.
Publikowane są również reportaże społeczne,  m.in. artykuł dziennikarza o greckich korzeniach Dionisios’a Stouris’a (zatytułowany „Młodzi grecy pakują walizki”) jak też artykuły poświecone greckiej rodzinie oraz skutkom kryzysu gospodarczego.
Pojawiają się także artykuły o słynnych Grekach, takich jak Maria Callas, Arystoteles Onassis i Telis Savalas.

Last Voyage for Theo Angelopoulos

“Angelopoulos can be counted

as one of the few filmmakers

World-acclaimed film director, and ambassador of Greek cinema abroad, Theo Angelopoulos died on the 24th January, after being hit by a motorcycle, while filming in Drapetsona, near Pireaus. Winner of several international film awards, Angelopoulos had started shooting his latest film, The Other Sea, earlier this month. His untimely death hit headlines around the globe.
Angelopoulos was born in Athens in 1935. He studied Law at Athens University, and at the beginning of the ‘60s he moved to France where he followed courses in ethnography and studied film at the Institute of Advanced Cinematographic Studies in Paris. Upon returning to Greece, he initially worked as a film critic and in 1970 he completed his first feature film Anaparastassi (Reconstruction).
His next three films make up a trilogy on the history of contemporary Greece: Meres tou ’36 (Days of ’36, 1972), O Thiassos (Travelling Players, 1975) and Oi Kynighoi (The Hunters, 1977), followeed by Megalexandros in 1980.
With these films some of the thematic and stylistic constants of Angelopoulos’ cinema were established – the weight of history, a clinical examination of power, a Brechtian theatricality, wherein the individual has no importance with respect to the group, a rejection of conventional narration in favour of an intentionally broken one, in which stationary cameras and sequence-length shots create an alternative sense of time.
Taxidi sta Kithira (Voyage to Cythera), in 1984, won the Cannes Festival International Critics’ Award for best screenplay, followed by O Melissokomos (The Beekeeper), in 1986, starring Marcello Mastroianni. With Topio stin Omichli (Landscape in the Mist) in 1988 he won the Silver Lion at the Venice Mostra. 
His filmography in the 90s included To meteoro vima tou pelargou (The Suspended Step of the Stork, 1991), followed by To vlemma toy Odyssea (Ulysses’ Gaze, 1995), starring Harvey Keitel – which won the Grand Jury Prize and the International Critics’ Prize at Cannes Festival. 
Then in 1998, he won the Cannes Palme D’Or prize for Mia eoniotita kai mia mera (Eternity and a Day) with Bruno Ganz. In 2003, he began another trilogy with To livadi pou dakryzi (The Wheeping Meadow) followed by H skoni tou chronou (Dust of Time, 2009). The film The Other Sea that he was currently shooting was to complete the trilogy.

W programie: koncert w wykonaniu greckich gwiazd : Milo Kurtis–Kostek YoriadisDuo, gościem  specjalnym będzie filmoznawca, krytyk filmowy Andrzej Bukowiecki, na finał pokaz filmu „Trzeba zabić tę miłość” Janusza Morgensterna.

Milo Kurtis. Perkusjonista, multiinstrumentalista, pochodzenia greckiego,  który przez kilka lat przebywał w USA. Współzałożyciel zespołu Maanam, wspólnie Wojciechem Waglewskim współzałożyciel międzynarodowej grupy Ya -Sou, członek pierwszego składu Voo Voo. Występował z Tomaszem Stańko, grupami Osjan, Brygada Kryzys, Virtual Jazz Reality. Obecnie lider i założyciel formacji Drum Freaks oraz zespołu Naxos.

Kostek Joriadis. Polski muzyk greckiego pochodzenia. Klawiszowiec, trębacz, wokalista, producent. Legenda polskiej sceny muzycznej. Grał z takimi zespołami jak: Maanam, Izraeal, Lady Punk, jako muzyk sesyjny z Kultem, Tiltem, De Mono. Z własnym zespołem Human nagrał wiele przebojów. Na koncercie usłyszymy m.in. temat z ” Greka Zorby” M. Theodorakisa.

„Trzeba zabić tę miłość to mniej znany film Janusza Morgensterna z 1972 według scenariusza Janusza Głowackiego.

Jazzowe spotkania Filmowe  skierowane sa do osób zainteresowanych X Muzą i muzyką jazzową, zwłaszcza fenomenem artystycznym „ Polskiej Szkoły Filmowej” i „ Polskiej Szkoły Jazzu”.

“European Day of Languages” (24-29/9/2011) – Greek events organized by the Press Office

The Press Office of the Greek Embassy in Warsaw once again participated in “European Day of Languages 2011” events, that took place in Warsaw from 24 till 29 September and aimed to inform Poles about the cultural and linguistic heritage of European countries.

Organizers were over eighteen countries, members of EUNIC Cluster Warsaw (European Union National Institutes of Culture), among them the Press Office of the Greek Embassy, cultural institutes and embassies of European countries, as well as  other institutions such as the European Commission Representation in Poland, the European Parliament Communication Office in Poland, the Polish Foundation for the Development of the Educational System, the University of Warsaw etc.
The program (www.edj.waw.pl) consisted of demo language lessons, seminars, European film festival, theatre workshops, city game, language picnic etc.
The Greek program of the events included:
Demo lesson of Greek language, that took place in the Institute of Foreign Languages of the University of Warsaw on the 27^th of September, as part of the demo-lessons of  languages and cultures of the participating countries.
Greek info stand, which was set in the University Campus of the Old Library of the University of Warsaw and provided touristic information on the 27^th September from 9 am until 3 pm.
The film “The Trojan Women” directed by Michael Cacoyannis (1971) was shown at the Russian Cultural Institute on the 29^th September, during the film festival organized in the Russian Cultural Institute (26-29 September) and the cinema Alchemia (25^th September):
A wide range of other events were organized during the week (24-29 September): a two-day conference “Language Competences for Professional and Personal Success inEurope”, entertainment activities, theatre workshops, city games, competitions on a special website. This year`s project attracted many students and other visitors and it can be considered as a perfect opportunity to experience the Greek language and culture.

Attenberg…Goes for Oscar

The film Attenberg directed by Athina-Rachel Tsangari has officially been submitted as Greece’s entry for 2012 Oscar Awards in the Foreign Language Film category.
Following a Hellenic Film Academy suggestion last May, Culture and Tourism Minister Pavlos Yeroulanos officially announced on September 29 that the multi-awarded Attenberg will represent Greece in the 84th Academy Awards to be held on February26 in Los Angeles.

Στην ταινία “Attenberg” της Αθηνάς-Ραχήλ Τσαγκάρη το πρώτο βραβείο του φεστιβάλ “Nowe Horyzonty” του Wroclaw

Η εφημερίδα Gazeta Wyborcza (1/8), με τίτλο «Καταδιώκοντας το σώμα» και υπότιτλο «Ολοκληρώθηκε χθες το φεστιβάλ Nowe Horyzonty στο Wrocław, ο σημαντικότερος κινηματογραφικός θεσμός στην Πολωνία», δημοσιεύει ρεπορτάζ του Paweł Felis, όπου παρουσιάζονται οι ταινίες με την μεγαλύτερη επιτυχία στο φετινό φεστιβάλ.
Επισημαίνεται ότι στην ταινία «Attenberg» της Αθηνάς-Ραχήλ Τσαγκάρη απονεμήθηκε το πρώτο βραβείο, όπως αναμενόταν.
Ο αρθρογράφος εκτιμά ότι η ταινία είναι «λεπτομερειακά γραμμένη και σκηνοθετημένη και συγχρόνως σαφής».
Προβάλλονται, επίσης, απόψεις της Τσαγκάρη ότι «η οικονομική κρίση προκαλεί τους έλληνες σκηνοθέτες σε γενναίες και εντυπωσιακές αναζητήσεις».
Η εφημερίδα Rzeczpospolita (1/8), με τίτλο «Η άλλη όψη του κινηματογράφου» και υπότιτλο «Φεστιβάλ Nowe Horyzonty. Οι εκτιμήσεις της κριτικής επιτροπής αποδείχτηκαν εύστοχες» δημοσιεύει, στις πολιτιστικές σελίδες, ρεπορτάζ της Barbara Hollender, για τα πιο σημαντικά δρώμενα του φεστιβάλ, επισημαίνοντας  ότι το πρώτο βραβείο απονεμήθηκε στην ταινία «Attenberg».
Σύμφωνα με την αρθρογράφο, η σκηνοθέτης Αθηνά- Ραχήλ Τσαγκάρη «εκπροσωπεί τη νέα γενιά δημιουργών που αντιμετωπίζουν την πραγματικότητα και τους εθνικούς μύθους».
Γίνεται, επίσης, αναφορά στις αισιόδοξες προοπτικές για τον ελληνικό κινηματογράφο.

Farewell to Filmmaker Michael Cacoyannis

Internationally acclaimed film director, screenwriter and producer Michael Cacoyannis died yesterday, at 89.
The director of the award-winning films Zorba the Greek and Stella, Michael Cacoyannis was nominated five times for an Academy Award (Oscar), receiving the Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film nominations for Zorba the Greek and two nominations in the Foreign Language Film category for Electra and Iphigenia.
Most of his work is rooted in classical texts, particularly those of the Greek tragedian Euripides.
A pioneer of post-war Greek cinema and director of international hits, Cacoyannis refused a career in Hollywood, opting for ‘quality’ theater. In 2003, he founded the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation for the study and support of the film and theater arts.

Kedzierzawska, Lechki win awards at Thessaloniki Film Festival

Poland’s film director Dorota Kedzierzawska was granted the honorary Golden Alexander award for lifetime achievements at the 51st Thessaloniki International Film Festival that ended on Sunday.
Marek Lechki won the Best Screenplay Award for “Erratum”, the film he also directed and produced.
On show during the festival were Kedzierzawska’s films “I am”, “Devils, Devils” and “Time to Die”. The films illustrate the Polish director’s original, outstanding style and her compassion for the people she portrays and profound respect she has for their choices, festival organizers wrote.
The Thessaloniki International Film Festival is a top film festival of South Eastern Europe. Founded in 1960 as the Week of Greek Cinema, it became international in 1992.

2010 Thessaloniki Film Festival

The 2010 Thessaloniki Film Festival came to an end, with the International Jury bestowing this year’s awards at the Olympion Theatre on Saturday.  The film Periferic/Outbound by Romanian director Bogdan George Apetri was the big winner, receiving the Golden Alexander (Best Feature Film), the best actress award for Ana Ularu’s performance and the Greek Film Critics Association Award. Athena Rachel Tsangaris’s Attenberg got the Silver Alexander (Special Jury) award. The Bronze Alexander, given for the first time this year, went to Jean Gentil by Laura Amelia Guzman and Israel Gardenias.  Τhe Best Director Award was received by another Romanian director, Marian Crisan for his film Morgen, which was also chosen as best film by the International Federation of Film Critics Jury (FIPRESCI). In the Greek section, the FIPRESCI award went to Apnea by Aris Balafoukas.

Enjoy a Movie under the stars in Athens

The arrival of summer in Athens is a big event: the high temperatures and the sweet climate just won’t let anyone stay at home. One of the most popular summer activities of the Athenians, as for back as the early ’50s, is the open-air cinema tradition.
Catching a movie in an open-air cinema means that winter is gone for good. Athens is home of more than 30 open-air cinemas, located on terraces, and gardens or jammed between apartment blocks. “Zefyros” in the beautiful Athenian neighborhood of Petralona, “Thission” in Dionysiou Aeropagitou pedestrian precinct or “Vox”” on a terrace in Exarchia square to name but a few.
The movies that are usually projected are reruns of first-run films from the winter period and remakes of famous classical movies.Watching movies under the starry sky, while enjoying your cold drink is a unique experience and the best choice for the warm summer nights in the city.

Festival of Greek Culture in Tarnowskie Gory (Silesia) 11-28 May 2010

A festival of Greek Culture is taking place in Tarnowskie Gory of Silesia region (southern Poland) from the 11th till the 28th May. The 13th edition of the festival, organized by the Cultural Centre of Tarnowskie Gory, is under the auspices of the Greek Embassy in Warsaw and has been realised with the cooperation of the Press Office.
Various aspects of Greek culture are promoted during the festival, which includes a rich programme of events of high quality, such as lectures, music, cinema, theatre, performances, concerts, dance, discussion-panels, painting, cuisine. Many Greeks that live in Poland and work successfully in various fields (artistic, scientific or economic), participate in this festival, presenting the results of their efforts.
At the official opening of the festival on the 14th May, a message by the Greek Ambassador, Gabriel Coptsidis, who praised the great interest of cultural institutions towards Greece and the high level of their knowledge about Greek history and culture, was read. The Press Attache, Maria Mondelou, has hold a speech, stressing the importance of cultural events dedicated to Greece that are successfully organised in Poland.

Tarnogórskie Makaty, w tym roku poświęcone będą w całości Grecji, a zwłaszcza spuściźnie kulturowej starożytnej Grecji, jak i dorobkowi w tej sferze współczesnego państwa greckiego. Imprezy w ramach XIII Tarnogórskich Makat odbędą się w dniach od 11 do 28 maja. Poprzednie edycje festiwalu poświęcone były m.in. kulturze: Japonii, Litwy, Czech, Węgier i Izraela. Głównym celem wydarzenia jest przybliżenie mieszkańcom naszego miasta i nie tylko, dziedzictwa innych kultur.
Tegoroczny program imprezy zapowiada się bardzo ciekawie. Serdecznie zapraszamy do udziału.

Greece`s presentation by the Greek Embassy and the Press Office at the European Information Centre in Warsaw (19/3/2010)

A presentation of Greece by the Greek Embassy and the Press Office in Warsaw took place at the European Information Centre of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 19^th March 2010 (www.cie.gov.pl).
Various aspects of Greece were presented by the Deputy Head of Mission, Paraskevi Charitidou, and the Press Attache, Maria Mondelou.
The audience, 70  students of higher secondary schools of Warsaw, was informed about Greece`s geostrategic position, its political system, the participation in international organizations, such as the EU and the NATO, the Greek Presidencies in the EU.
A brief presentation of the Greek history, mainly during the modern and contemporary period, was followed by characteristic examples of Greek culture, in the fields of literature, poetry, music, theatre and cinema.
Views of the New Acropolis Museum were presented, as well as Greece`s request for the restitution of the Parthenon Marbles.
During the discussion, the students were informed about Greece`s foreign policy, the situation of the Greek economy, tourism, the educational system and the scholarships offered for foreign students. They were, also, particularly interested about the image of Poles in Greece and their life.
 The European Information Centre, that invited the Greek Embassy to make the presentation of Greece, organizes annually discussions with representatives of the EU member states.

Spotkanie z przedstawicielkami Ambasady Grecji

 19 marca 2010 r. w Centrum Informacji Europejskiej MSZ odbyło się spotkanie uczniów XL Liceum Ogólnokształcącego im. S. Żeromskiego oraz LXXV Liceum Ogólnokształcącego im. Jana III Sobieskiego w Warszawie z przedstawicielkami Ambasady Grecji. Ambasadę reprezentowały Pani Paraskevi Charitidou, zastępca szefa misji oraz Pani Maria Mondelou, Pierwszy Sekretarz w Biurze Prasowym Ambasady Grecji w Warszawie.
Prelegentki omówiły historię i system polityczny Grecji oraz aktualne działania Grecji w Unii Europejskiej. Opowiedziały również o warunkach studiowania w tym kraju i stypendiach dostępnych dla polskich studentów. Podczas prezentacji został wyświetlony krótki film o Atenach.
Po wykładzie miała miejsce dyskusja, w czasie której przedstawicielki Ambasady odpowiedziały na liczne pytania publiczności dotyczące stereotypów o Polakach, greckiej kultury, popularnych Greków, kryzysu gospodarczego, relacji z Turcją, aktualnego sporu między Grecją i Byłą Jugosłowiańską Republiką Macedonii przed Międzynarodowym Trybunałem Sprawiedliwości oraz doświadczeń czterech prezydencji Grecji w Radzie Unii Europejskiej.
W spotkaniu uczestniczyło ponad 70 osób.

Cacoyannis Foundation: A new Cultural Centre

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA) President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias and Cyprus President Demetris Christofias officially inaugurated on March 9, the “Michael Cacoyannis Foundation,” housed in an Athens downtown building.
The Foundation’s building is designed to serve as a cultural centre for performing arts and is meant to preserve Cacoyannis oeuvre for future generation.
The official inauguration is to be followed by a series of events, including a costume and photography exhibition from Cacoyannis’s work for the cinema, opera and theatre.
Cypriot-born Michael Cacoyannis is the director of world acclaimed films, among which Stella, Electra, Zorba the Greek and The Trojan Women.

Academy of Greek Filmmakers

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA) Costa Gavras, Michael Cacoyannis, Nikos Koundouros and Dinos Katsouridis are honorary members of the newly established Academy of Greek Filmmakers (December 2009).
The Academy – which includes members of the different professions related to filmmaking – will primarily assume the responsibility of bestowing awards for Greek productions.
The Greek version follows the example of other countries (U.S.A., Germany, Spain, etc.) where the Academy has established itself as an independent body with successful work in promoting local productions. Besides awards, the 108 founding members of the Academy of Greek Filmmakers will contribute to the international promotion of Greek cinema and filmmakers’ training.

Thessaloniki Film Festival Awards

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA) The 50th Thessaloniki International Film Festival closing ceremony was celebrated yesterday. The highest honour was bestowed on the Israeli-German production “Crossroads of life” (Ajami). The “Golden Alexander” award – which is accompanied by a €40,000 cash prize – was presented to the winners by German director Werner Herzog, who will also head the critics committee in the upcoming Berlin Film Festival.

The “Silver Alexander” (€25,000 euros) was awarded to the Romanian film “Medal of honour.”Its leading actor Viktor Rebencuk won the award for best male performance, while the award for Best Actress went to Ruth Nyrere for her performance in the film “The Day God Walked Away” (Belgium). The award for best direction was received by the Mexican Rigoberto Perezcano for his film “Northless.”

“Squares of Europe, Squares for Europe”

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA) The exhibition “Squares of Europe, Squares for Europe,” is the outcome of a research project “The square, European cultural heritage” that was carried out by a series of universities and research centres in collaboration with cities that have famous squares and was coordinated by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.The exhibition opened on November 5 at the Benaki Museum and will last until December 6.

“Athens: City & Cinema”

The Benaki Museum is hosting as photography exhibition by Tassos Vrettos, titled “Athens: City & Cinema,” featuring the movie houses of Athens. The exhibition opened on November 5 and will last through to December 15.

CONFERENCE

“City& Cinema: Projection spaces, City Spaces”

An international conference on “City and Cinema: Projection spaces, City Spaces,” will open its doors from November 12 until November14 at the Benaki Museum.

The conference is organised by the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3, the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme and the Department of Media and Culture of the Panteion University of Athens.The purpose of the conference is to investigate the multifaceted relationship of cinema and the city:the city as a film location, cinema as a social practice, the movie house as a gathering spot and a meeting place; the cinema as a city experience and expression of urban life.

MUSIC

Yann Tiersen, the talented musician who became widely known for his music for the film “Amelie Poulain” is coming to Greece for three concerts in Athens, Patras and Thessaloniki, on November 14, 15, and 16, respectively.

2nd “London Greek Film Festival 2009” Awards

Hellenic Centre and the London office of the GNTO supported and co-organised the second London Greek Film Festival. Among the people who followed the festival’s events were artists, film makers, producers, members of the Academia, reporters and so on.
The London Greek Film Festival is a unique opportunity for the Greek culture to reach the British public, while contributing in promoting Greek films as well as new film makers and actors.
On Sunday 1^st November the Odysseus awards ceremony took place at the Hellenic Centre. Key speakers at the ceremony were the Head of the Greek Press Office in London Mr Spyros Diamantis and the Head of the GNTO London Office Ms Sophia Panagiotaki.

The Script Award for short film at the 2^nd London Greek Film Festival 2009 was attributed to the script:  “Two Shoes on Wheels” of Stefanos Mondelos, based on the illustrated fairytale of Nikolaos Andrikopoulos (“Ellinika Grammata” editions).
This script was awarded for the second time recently, as it has received the 3^rd Award for Adapted Script for short film by the Hellenic Book Center.

Τα βραβεία του: «2ου London Greek Film Festival»

Με στόχο την προβολή του ελληνικού κινηματογράφου, αλλά και γενικότερα την προβολή της χώρας μας στη Μεγάλη Βρετανία, πραγματοποιήθηκε φέτος στο Λονδίνο για δεύτερη συνεχή χρονιά από τις 30 Οκτωβρίου έως την 1^η Νοεμβρίου το Φεστιβάλ Ελληνικού Κινηματογράφου, το οποίο συνδιοργανώθηκε από το Γ.Τ.Ε. Λονδίνου, το Hellenic Centre και τον ΕΟΤ.
Στα πλαίσια του Φεστιβάλ, το κοινό είχε την ευκαιρία να παρακολουθήσει 41 ταινίες μικρού μήκους – με αγγλικούς υπότιτλους – οι περισσότερες από τις οποίες παρουσιάστηκαν για πρώτη φορά στη Μεγάλη Βρετανία. Στις προβολές που πραγματοποιήθηκαν στις δύο ημέρες που διήρκεσε το Φεστιβάλ, συμπεριλαμβάνονταν ταινίες μυθοπλασίας, επιστημονικής φαντασίας, ντοκυμαντέρ, ταινίες κινουμένων σχεδίων (animation), ταινίες μικρού μήκους, και video art. Επίσης, παρουσιάστηκαν σενάρια για ταινίες επιστημονικής φαντασίας και για ταινίες μικρού μήκους.
Την πρώτη μέρα του Φεστιβάλ (Παρασκευή 30 Οκτωβρίου) παραγωγοί και σκηνοθέτες είχαν την ευκαιρία να λάβουν μέρος στο Informational Networking Event με τίτλο Shooting in Greece: Ένα εργαστήρι, στα πλαίσια του οποίου, οι συμμετέχοντες είχαν τη δυνατότητα να ενημερωθούν σε βάθος από τους αρμοδίους και να λάβουν κάθε είδους πληροφορίες όσον αφορά την κινηματογράφηση στην Ελλάδα, (επίσης πληροφορίες για ελληνικές εταιρείες παραγωγής, για σημεία ειδικού ενδιαφέροντος στην Ελλάδα, για χρηματοδοτήσεις κλπ). Το Φεστιβάλ περιλάμβανε επίσης συζητήσεις, παρουσιάσεις σεναρίων και διοργάνωση εργαστηρίων (workshops).
Την Κυριακή 1^η Νοεμβρίου, ημέρα λήξης του Φεστιβάλ, απονεμήθηκαν στο Hellenic Centre τα βραβεία Odysseus. Κεντρικοί ομιλητές στην τελετή απονομής των βραβείων ήταν ο Σπύρος Διαμαντής, επικεφαλής του Γ.Τ.Ε. Λονδίνου, η Σοφία Παναγιωτάκη, Διευθύντρια του Γραφείου ΕΟΤ και ο Διευθυντής του Φεστιβάλ, Χρήστος Προσύλης.
Το Βραβείο Σεναρίου μικρού μήκους ταινίας στο 2nd London Greek Film Festival 2009 έλαβε το σενάριο “Δυό Παπούτσια με Καρότσι”  του Στέφανου Μονδέλου, βασισμένο στο ομώνυμο εικονογραφημένο παραμύθι του Νικόλαου Ανδρικόπουλου (εκδ. Ελληνικά Γράμματα). Το συγκεκριμένο σενάριο βραβεύεται για δεύτερη φορά, μετά το 3ο Βραβείο Διασκευασμένου Σεναρίου για ταινία μικρού μήκους που έλαβε εφέτος, στον Διαγωνισμό Διασκευασμένου Σεναρίου που διοργανώνεται για πέμπτη συνεχή χρονιά από το Εθνικό Κέντρο Βιβλίου.

Το Σαββάτο 10/10/09 στις 14:00 και την Δευτερα 12/10/2009 στις 16:30 στο κινηματογράφο KINOTEKA (pl. Defilad 1, www.kinoteka.pl)  και στα πλαίσια του φεστιβαλ Κινηματογράφου της Βαρσοβίας θα προβληθεί η ταινία του Έλληνα σκηνοθέτη Γιώργου Λανθιμου “Κυνοδόντας”.
Ο “Κυνόδοντας”  πηρε το βραβειο καλυτερης ταινιας στο Φεστιβαλ Καννών στο τμήμα “Ενα Κάποιο Βλέμμα”.

New Home for Film Archive

The Greek Film Archive (Tainiothiki) is moving into a new building, on the premises of the old cinema Lais, in the Gazi district, downtown Athens. The official opening of the new headquarters of the Greek Film Archive is scheduled for October 1^st, and will extend over four days with various events and an Avant-Garde Film Festival from October 5-14.  The new building is equipped with two screening theatres (a 200-seat and a 60-seat one) as well as a library and a museum dedicated to cinema in Greece and the history of the Greek Film Archive.

The Film Archive sprang from the activity of the Athens Cinematography Association, which was established in 1950 by the Athens Association of Film Critics. Nowadays it boasts over 10,000 titles by Greek and foreign directors and over 1 million meters of film containing rare footage from newsreels to professional and home movies.  AthensPlus (18.9.09): Greek Film Archive finds a new home ( p.35)

Films Nominated for European Awards

Two Greek films – “Strella” (photo) by Panos Koutras and “Dogtooth” by Yorgos Lanthimos – have been nominated for the European Film Academy Awards.  Every year the Awards honour achievements in European cinema, among them European Film, European Director, European Actress and Actor. This year’s awards ceremony will take place on December 12 in the German city of Bochum.   “Dogtooth” won the Un Certain Regard award at the Cannes Film Festival last May while “Strella” competed last winter at the Berlinale.

Actors Filming in Mykonos

Greek-Australian actors Nick Giannopoulos and Vince Colosimo are currently shooting on Myconos island “Wog Boy 2: Kings of Mykonos,” a sequel of “Wog Boy,” which grossed 13.4 million Australian dollars.  Secretariat General of Information: About Greece – Cinema
